Job Summary

AECOM are recruiting an EC&I Engineer to join our established and ever growing Water, Ports & Power unit in the Warrington office.

Our Water, Ports & Power sectors primarily focus is the design, management & supervision of multi-discipline projects on all the major clients within the UK, with a primary focus on turn-key solutions to projects often including control system design, building services and direct consultancy services.

The position requires an experienced Electrical Engineer person who can then apply their skills as an individual or as part of a team to deliver projects to the benefit of our Clients. Inherently the projects are multi-disciplinary and may be at any stage in the project life cycle. Our projects range from client consultancy support to multi-million pound complete turn-key solutions.

In addition to EC&I Engineer duties, the successful candidate may be required to both manage and project report on their package of work. Additional responsibilities may include the client interface, preparation of bids and proposals and then managing the delivery of the projects in accordance with AECOM’s quality, safety and environmental procedures.

EC&I Engineer reporting to the Head of EC&I Engineering at the Warrington office.

You will be responsible for delivery of EC&I design & engineering within that department, including the production of design documentation, design substantiation, as well as checking the work of other engineers & designers.

  • Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Minimum Requirements

Your previous experience will demonstrate competency in a number of the following areas:General:

  • Competent user of the current version of AutoCAD, a sound understanding of drawing standards and best drawing practice

  • Functional Design Specification, Basis of Design & User Requirement Specification production

  • Document and Drawing checking

  • An appreciation of mechanical / civil and process systems and the aptitude work within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Deliver project deliverables within timescales, budget constraints and quality expectations.

  • Fulfill all responsibilities for Health and Safety in Design.

  • Manage the work load and technical aspects for small teams.

  • Proven track record of Client interface.


  • A working knowledge of BS7671

  • Low Voltage Electrical Distribution Design

  • Interlocking systems

  • Lighting design

  • Lightning protection

  • Fire Alarm design

  • Normal / Emergency lighting design

Control and Instrumentation :

  • Control system design

  • Design of conventional instrumentation systems (loop diagrams, instrument schedules etc.)

  • Programmable Logic Controllers hardware /software design

  • I/O, alarm & trip schedules

  • Control panel design (GA’s, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, parts lists etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

For this role we would expect you to be:

  • Qualified to a minimum of HNC level and preferably have a good relevant engineering degree

  • Chartered Engineering or on your way to be

  • Extensive relevant experience and be able to demonstrate sound technical knowledge

You would also ideally have experience in the following:

  • Communications systems design (Ethernet and field bus communications)

  • Experience of commissioning electrical and control systems

  • Experience of maintaining electrical and control systems

  • Access and Security system design

  • Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61508, 61511, 61513)

  • ESQCR Electrical Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002

  • Client Specific standards (Sellafield, Water Industry, Building Services CIBSE etc.)

  • BS EN 61439 Switch Gear and Control Gear General Rules

  • Safety Instrumented Systems (configuration diagrams)

  • Experience of commissioning control systems

  • Experience of maintaining electrical systems

  • Medium / High Voltage Electrical Distribution Design

  • ATEX

  • Competent user of the current version of Revit

  • Competent user of the current version of Amtech

  • Competent user of the current version of DIALux

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.

Travel to other UK company sites and some international travel may be necessary as part of the role.
