AECOM's Telford office is currently seeking a Principal Highways/Drainage Engineer/Project Manager to join our expanding Transportation team.
AECOM’s Telford team has an established track record of successfully delivering highways and drainage schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. The team provides conceptual, preliminary and detailed design services on a wide range of projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects require it.
We are looking to enhance and enlarge our team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to meet the needs of our expanding client base. Our position on a number of significant Transportation Frameworks and our longstanding private sector client relationships provide the team with excellent opportunities across both the public and private sector markets ensuring an exciting future and varied workload.
You will have, or be close to achieving, Chartered (CEng or IEng) status and will have an excellent grounding in highways or traffic engineering design and project management. Your experience will include working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team developing designs for highway/drainage/traffic engineering schemes.
Lead the preparation of preliminary or detailed design and project delivery of highway/drainage/traffic engineering schemes.
Prepare detailed client briefs, fee proposals, technical responses and study reports and contribute to major bids.
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief and AECOM’s quality procedures
Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget
Share knowledge and support the team to create a collaborative work environment
Act as day to day client point of contact for projects
Act as a Project Manager (following successful accreditation on the AECOM project management system) and monitor financial performance of projects. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided
Support team manager in mentoring junior staff
Provide specialised technical input to studies and design for the staff's specific area of expertise.
Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
Participate in the interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
Use expertise in all steps of completing the discipline component of the PS&E package.
Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
Prepare technical specification sections.
Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
Demonstrable experience in highways and/or drainage design at conceptual, preliminary and detailed design stages
Excellent technical and communication skills.
Awareness of H&S Legislation and the CDM Regulations
Experience in managing projects or tasks, including Client and Design Team liaison
Experience in bid writing and work winning
Demonstrable application of the relevant design standards (e.g. Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations, Traffic Signs Manual, Sewers for Adoption)
- A graduate (or equivalent) and working towards Incorporated or Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution
