Job Summary

AECOM’s Cornwall team is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Principal Highways Engineer who wants to balance working on a range of exciting projects with the lifestyle this part of the country offers.

As a team they provide concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of traffic, highway and road safety engineering projects. They also support other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. This team is primarily involved with providing professional and technical support to our Cormac/Cornwall Council Framework, and a variety of other clients across the south-west, including Plymouth City Council and Highways England.

In this role you will be involved in:

  • Acting as a key client contact

  • Providing specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise

  • Developing study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others

  • Participates in Interdisciplinary review of project deliverables

  • Developing construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects

  • Performing quality control review of design calculations or drawings

  • Providing input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Track record in project management and delivery of traffic or highway engineering schemes

  • Knowledge and experience in cycling design, bus priority, traffic calming, junction and traffic management design

  • Leading single and multi-disciplinary projects as Project Manager

  • Ability to chair and facilitate client/stakeholder meetings

  • Knowledge and experience of local and national design standards including, but not limited to, DMRB, TSRGD, Traffic Signs Manual and Manual for Streets

  • Line management and mentoring staff in the performance of their duties

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Engineering or other relevant subject or comparable post qualification experience

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status with membership of a relevant professional institution
