Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Staff Geologist or immediate employment for the Santa Barbara, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

Assist with task management for a broad range of environmental assessment and remediation projects

Conduct environmental field investigations involving soil, soil vapor, indoor and outdoor air, and groundwater

Supervise subcontractors in the field

Prepare work plans and reports

Assist in remediation projects

Implement work plans and health & safety plans

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field

  • 2+ years of experience

  • Geologist in Training, GIT

  • 40-HAZWOPER training certification

  • Strong advocate of a behavior-based safety program

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to read, write and understand technical documents including investigation work plans and remedial action plans

  • Thorough knowledge of soil, soil vapor, surface water and groundwater sampling

  • Fully competent in a variety of field investigation drilling methods (HSA, Mud Rotary, Sonic, Geoprobe)

  • Ability to design, install, and abandon groundwater monitoring wells and soil vapor probes

  • Ability to supervise field staff and subcontractors

  • Must be detailed-oriented, thorough, well organized and effective time management

  • Team player with excellent listening skills and diplomacy; willing to work with multiple different colleagues on a variety of initiatives

  • Due to the nature of this position, US Citizenship is required

  • As required by client, candidate must pass a drug screen prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) investigations

  • Ability to travel associated with field projects
