Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Engineering Intern to be based in Sanford, Florida .

This position is expected to begin in March 2024.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributes within Traffic Safety, ITS and Traffic Operations as needed.

  • Pulls and analyzes vehicular and pedestrian crash data.

  • Develops an awareness of standard practices, techniques, and procedures under supervision.

  • Research alternate solutions and design options in support of the project team, e.g. white paper research.

  • Provides analysis to support development of traffic operations/ITS and TIM ideas and solutions.

  • Communicates and collaborates with full design team and others.

  • Support and assist the development of work products such as specifications, drawings, and illustrative graphics.

  • Follows specific, detail instructions and set of technical approach for traffic operations/ITS.

  • Provides support for real-time traffic incident management (TIM) and/or for meetings with TIM stakeholders.

  • Monitors CCTV and other ITS devices to evaluate traffic conditions and detect incidents.

  • Work within FDOT's proprietary advanced traffic management system (SunGuide) to manage events and provide notification to drivers through various driver information systems.

  • Dispatch Road Rangers and coordinate resources with various FDOT resources and responders.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a focus in Transportation

  • Must have completed two years of study in qualified program.

  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with data analytics and/or visualization and/or programming.

  • Experience or demonstrated interest (academic, professional, or volunteer) with traffic incident management, emergency response, drones or another related field.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $18.59/hour - $25.55/hour.
