Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Stormwater Field Superintendent for immediate employment in the Sandy Springs, GA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees construction and maintenance activities for City of Sandy Springs Stormwater Unit projects which may include stormwater infrastructure, paving, maintenance work order reviews, etc. as needed

  • Prepares scopes of work to be advertised through the City’s purchasing department related to stormwater infrastructure improvements/rehabilitation

  • Contacts public regarding stormwater/drainage related concerns and maintains City’s customer service database related to these inquiries

  • Participates in formal pre-construction meetings for proposed projects

  • Remains current on Municipal and industry construction practices

  • Monitors materials & construction work of the most complex nature performed by contractors on various stormwater capital and maintenance projects to ensure that project schedules and contract provisions/specifications are being met

  • Maintains complete and accurate construction & financial records for assigned projects in accordance with Federal, State, Department, and City policies (Davis Bacon Wage reporting requirements, etc.)

  • Monitors the implementation of necessary safety traffic control and erosion control measures consistent with contract documents and applicable guidelines at a construction site

  • Verifies public and worker safety and keep construction disruptions to the environment and traveling public to a minimum

  • Gathers field engineering data, as required

  • Represents the Unit to the residents/public that may be affected by the construction of various projects

  • Maintains assigned vehicle to prescribed preventive maintenance standards, and submits vehicular reports in a timely manner

  • Responsible for the overall progress of the project as well as the scheduling of contractors/workers and the delivery of equipment and materials

  • Demonstrated competency in visualizing problems and recommending solutions to problems

  • Resolves contract disputes and arranges any necessary change orders

  • Records daily work activity via written reports and photographs and complete necessary erosion and sediment site compliance reviews/inspections and paperwork

  • May lead and direct the work of others

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or related field or demonstrated an equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities, and experience

  • 0-2 years of experience

  • May require work on nights, weekends and holidays as well as rotational on-call work of up to one week per month

  • Will require visits to project sites

  • The employee must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all safety policies and must be willing to report and/or act on safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel;

  • Requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; dangerous and/or hazardous environments; must be flexible and able to adapt to frequent changes in work priorities;

  • The incumbent is expected to meet attendance standards as determined by management. The employee must be available and willing to work according to the assigned schedule. Must be available and willing to work overtime, (including daily, weekend and holidays) as determined by management as necessary to meet the business needs;

  • The incumbent will perform duties in a combination of outside work and an office environment. The job requires the employee to perform duties at a job site; at times working along and at times working very closely with others;

  • Position requires outside work, subject to all types of weather and temperature conditions. Incumbents may be exposed to chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke, and gases and various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces;

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the use of both eyes and the ability to adjust focus; and

  • Must be able to move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work.

  • Must possess a GA valid driver's license

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working as a construction inspector with an emphasis on stormwater infrastructure projects

  • Ability to read and understand work orders, project plans, specifications and standards and apply knowledge to construction inspection work

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
