Job Description

AECOM's growing Northern California Environmental Planning and Permitting team is seeking a highly experienced Senior Environmental Planner/ Project Manager to join our Sacramento team. This is a hybrid role.

The successful candidate would join other leaders in Northern California to engage with our expanding pool of public and private sector clients, manage projects and tasks, and coordinate with leaders of our other business lines to support our clients’ priority development, engineering, transportation, renewable energy, education, water supply and flood protection, long-range planning, and natural resource management projects. Depending on individual skills and interests, the candidate could also lead long-range policy planning and community design assignments in coordination with our California planning, design, and economics team.

While we anticipate that this position would focus on serving our public agency client base in Northern California, the successful candidate is encouraged to bring their own vision of areas of focus and should anticipate having a meaningful voice in shaping our integrated environmental and community planning practice.

AECOM is seeking candidates with a demonstrated ability to manage environmental planning projects, successfully interface with clients, apply sound business development and marketing strategies, and prepare proposals and deliverables that respond to our clients’ needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • In coordination with other partners, provide leadership in business development and marketing activities through outreach to local and regional public agencies and private clients in northern California.

  • Generate proposals and contracts with other managers and marketing staff, and anticipate, track, and obtain new task orders from existing clients.

  • Plan, execute, and deliver projects in a collaborative environment supported by a range of technical specialists.

  • Manage projects through completion in accordance with defined scopes of work and budgets.

  • Engage staff, assign project responsibilities, and manage internal teams and subcontractors to meet schedule and budget.

  • Manage preparation of technical studies and environmental documents for completeness, accuracy, and defensibility.

  • Provide advice, mentor, and enhance the professional development of other members of our Team.

  • Contribute to the identification and development of new business opportunities and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, environmental planning, natural/biological resource management or other related field experience.

  • 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education with environmental planning and compliance, including CEQA and NEPA project experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing and overseeing the preparation of California Environmental Quality Act documents.

  • Experience and interest in business development and client engagement, as well as presenting complex environmental documents to planning commissions, city councils, boards of supervisors, and other decision-making bodies.

  • Effective problem-solving abilities, exceptional writing and communication skills, and an ability to ensure performance of internal technical teams and subcontractors.

  • Experience with urban planning, community planning, long-range policy planning, urban design, zoning, market feasibility, or economic development strategies.

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $130,000.00 - $170,000.00.
