Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our downtown Sacramento office. Seeking a highly-motivated individual to join our dynamic Sacramento office and be part our international engineering practice. This individual will direct HVAC and plumbing teams for healthcare, corporate office, clean rooms, labs, and high tech clients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing custom solutions for unique projects, mentoring a team, and developing calculations, construction drawings, design reports, and specifications to support mechanical and plumbing portions of design work in accordance with building codes.

Job Summary:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be expected to:
Serve as a Discipline Representative on projects
Have substantial knowledge of the California Mechanical Code, Title 24, ASHRAE standards, and NFPA, in addition to experience with analysis and layout of HVAC systems, hydronic piping, air distribution and HVAC products and materials
Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and judgement based on experience to design and construct HVAC and plumbing systems and equipment in buildings using building information modeling
Coordinate HVAC&P systems with other disciplines to produce complete building designs
Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
Act as an adviser and review correspondence prepared by junior project team members
Meet with clients, prepare proposals and presentations while maintaining good client relations
Assist in project checking for quality control on other projects
Switch between work on multiple projects daily
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Mechanical engineering design from conceptual level through construction administration and post-occupancy
Develops, designs, specifies, and witnesses the testing of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering
Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
Stays current on codes and technologies appropriate to the Mechanical discipline
Organizes and conducts site visits for the purpose of data collection and evaluation of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes
Coordinating with the client and multiple disciplines and acting as mechanical engineer point of contact to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule
Assist in proposal preparation and discipline plans that meet project requirements in conjunction with senior leadership.
Manage and work on multiple projects with other team members, acting as mentor and reviewer of work
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar field +4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) registration with 6+ years of experience
Strong mechanical code knowledge including International Fuel Gas Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA and other relevant codes and standards
Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs. This includes cooling towers, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, hot water and steam boilers, geothermal systems, heat exchangers etc.
Experience in developing specifications
Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience is a plus
Medical gas piping design experience is a plus
Experience in the following markets: Corporate Workplace and Commercial buildings, Federal Civilian and DoD, Healthcare, Laboratories, Mission Critical, Justice, and Higher Education projects
Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident
Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection
Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700, Carrier HAP and other energy modeling software such as eQuest; IES is a plus.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $88,000.00 - $150,000.00.
