AECOM Traffic Management Engineer/ Project Manager in Ottawa, Ontario

Job Summary

The Transportation Planning group of AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, enthusiastic engineer/planner for the Ottawa, ON office to provide clients with transportation planning services, serving as a technical specialist and/or project manager. You will be involved in many aspects of transportation projects including traffic safety, transportation planning, traffic engineering/modelling and traffic management during construction, for municipal and provincial clients. Responsibilities will include corridor/intersection analysis, safety analysis, and management of transportation and multi-disciplinary teams.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and undertake transportation and traffic engineering assignments:

◦Transportation master plans

◦Active transportation planning and design projects

◦Class Environmental Assessment studies for transportation

◦Traffic impact studies and site plan reviews

◦Transportation study peer reviews

◦Traffic management plans for construction staging

◦Preliminary/functional design of roads/active transportation facilities

◦Signage and pavement marking plans (temporary and permanent conditions)

  • Coordinate stakeholder consultation activities on transportation projects. Present study to the public, client representatives, agencies and other stakeholders. Respond to comments and questions

  • Use software packages including Synchro SimTraffic, Sidra, VISSIM and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) for analysis, evaluation, reporting and preparation of presentations to AECOM and client standards

  • Prepare documentation related to current or prospective projects, including proposals, expressions of interest, qualifications, correspondence, consultation materials, maps, reports, and meeting minutes

  • Undertake/manage field work such as site investigation, traffic data collection and inventory of signs and pavement markings

  • Perform calculations and analyses and review work by others

  • Document the results of work in tabular and report formats such that the results can be clearly understood by traffic engineers and by members of the public

  • Contribute to construction drawings such as traffic management and detour plans using traffic engineering principles and Ontario Traffic Manuals (or other relevant reference material)

  • Proactively lead business development efforts by identifying, and acting on opportunities

  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and communication with clients, colleagues, internal and external leads

  • Complete work within the prescribed time and budget while maintaining high quality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in transportation planning/design and traffic engineering

  • Work experience and knowledge of provincial and municipal transportation planning and engineering principles, policies, guidelines, and applications such as Ontario Traffic Manuals, ITE Traffic Engineering Handbooks, and TAC Geometric Design Guide is essential along with an understanding and experience with the Municipal Class EA process

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite that includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Experience undertaking planning studies with large data sets

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Clear communication skills, oral and written, are essential

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or other further specialty education/training in transportation (such as PTOE) and/or project management would be an asset

  • Possess an engineering license (P.Eng.) or registered professional planner designation (RPP, MCIP) in Ontario, or have the requirements to obtain one of these

  • Bilingual language skills are helpful
