Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places , AECOM's Architectural business unit, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position could be based out of either our Montreal or Ottawa offices with opportunities for hybrid work.

The Buildings and Places Team is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers Engineering, architectural and project management services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to, commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical, water / waste water and transit facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

  • Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

  • Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.

  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

  • Prepares technical specification sections.

  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

  • Developing various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents

  • Preparing electrical drawings and specification

  • Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecomm., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)

  • Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project

  • Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data

  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards;

  • Working with prime consultants, engineering consultants, and contractors; responding to technical queries

  • Construction administration responsibilities:

  • Attending site meetings and site reviews complete with reports

  • Shop drawing reviews

  • SI and CCN preparations.

  • Contractor`s change quotation reviews

  • Progress billing reviews

  • Fire alarm verification report reviews

  • Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same

  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this position, candidates must possess no less than:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 6+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in a building engineering group

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario and/or Quebec

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other industry standards and codes

  • Experience in leading electrical designers and drafters

  • Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems

  • Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP

  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing

  • Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department

  • Analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities

  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Analytical, resourceful and detailed oriented

  • A good team player and decision maker.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Experience with Electrical load calculations, lighting design and analysis a plus

  • Additional certifications such as LEED, LC, CEM, RCDD etc. are a bonus

  • Communications system design experience is a plus

  • Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable

  • Some Project Management experience and training desired.
