Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a versatile, self-motivated, independent GIS Manager for immediate employment in the Oakland, CA office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of GIS principles with a detail-oriented approach to cartographic design and spatial analysis. The successful candidate will need to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging work environment with a chance to contribute to projects that will impact the Bay Area and beyond.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages and independently executes and delivers GIS projects of moderate to significant scope and complexity

  • Utilizes GIS techniques and software to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location

  • Provide expertise of a fully competent GIS practitioner to all conventional aspects of functional area and applies management of spatial and non-spatial information in accordance with industry standards

  • Perform geospatial analyses

  • Produce a variety of mapping products for presentation Analyzes technical problems and devises new approaches and alternative solutions

  • Develop, maintain, and administer task automation workflows for GIS analysis and production and data management

  • Provide documentation on the source and evolution of spatial data

  • Produce spatial and non-spatial data while ensuring accuracy and logical consistency in processing and output

  • Create, collects, convert, and integrate geospatial datasets

  • Create, edit, and maintains geospatial databases and metadata on multiple simultaneous projects

  • Process and analyzes raster and vector geospatial data in support of clients and staff including engineers, biologists, hydrologists, and geologists

  • Uses software to provide detailed and concise map- based information

  • Develop responses to RFP/RFO/RFI/RFO solicitations and scopes of work for potential clients

  • Business development and opportunity discovery

  • Manage staff in local and regional offices; this will require commuting to other offices to meet with staff on a monthly basis

  • Ensure that information management quality assurance procedures comply with AECOM standards and procedures

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or related field, or related field

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and / or education

  • Demonstrated experience managing staff

  • Demonstrated experience with task delegation and work distribution

  • Fluency in ArcGIS Suite 10.X, Python, and SQL experience

  • Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, map projections, and topology

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of LiDAR processing techniques Working knowledge of raster processing techniques DBA experience (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or other database platform)

  • Working knowledge of enterprise GIS systems (ArcGIS for Server)

  • Experience using FME to automate data development

  • Knowledge of mobile data collection and GPS techniques

  • Experience supporting web-based GIS services (e.g. ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, GeoServer, Mapbox, others)

  • Working knowledge of multi-user environments (ex. CITRIX)

  • Working Knowledge of GitHub

  • Certified GISP
