AECOM Archaeological Technician in Oakland, California

Job Summary

Conduct archaeological survey and site delineation.

Excavate and document test pits and/or units within survey areas and archaeological sites of the project as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.

Keep legible and understandable field notes

Provide acceptable field and lab-documentation.

Wash or otherwise clean, sort, catalog, analyze, and prepare for permanent curation all recovered artifacts as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.

Prepare selected samples for specialized studies as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.

Create electronic spreadsheets, inventories, and provide data entry.

Travel required. However, majority of work expected in the San Francisco Bay Area, with no travel stipend or per diem.

Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.

Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

Entry-level position; may not require previous experience. This is a part-time variable role.

Minimum Requirements

HS Diploma

Ability to hike up to 8 - 10 miles per day on a repeated basis necessary for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

BS / BA in Archaeology or related field.

Good interpersonal skills, writing skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are fundamental. Attitude and demeanor compatible with collaborative team efforts, ability to professionally interact with clients clearly understanding project approach, and ability to understand expectations of assigned tasks are desired.
