Your primary role will be to support the Planning & Communities Sub Business Unit Director, the Practice Leads and the Operations Director with the operational management of the team.

You will be responsible for supporting teams in developing, delivering, and reporting on their business plans and KPIs. You will have a view on both leading metrics (such as our Sources of Revenue and opportunities) and our delivery metrics (including cost utilisation and project performance) to take a view on the health of the business. You will provide early warnings of any challenges and provide recommended solutions to the SBU Director, Operations Director and Practice Leads. You will seek and deliver opportunities to make us more efficient and effective at delivery, supporting teams where necessary to make improvements.

You will play a key role in the opportunity management process to ensure the right types of work are identified and accounted for in any planning. Critical to this is managing revenue forecasting (SoR process) and supporting the Resourcing Lead in workload planning with a 6-to-12-month horizon.

You will also maintain a level of billable work through integrating with and providing support in project delivery on issues such as project and commercial management to our teams. Depending on your background and experience, you may also undertake technical work as a Lead Verifier or reviewer within your sphere of expertise.

As Operations Lead, you'll have a direct impact on the success of the team and be at the forefront of shaping our future strategy and growth. We are committed to fostering your professional development with opportunities for leadership, technical expertise, and broader business management.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Support the SBU Director and Operations Director in the financial planning process and monitoring the SBU performance against plan and outlook.

  • Manage the Sources of Revenue (SoR) forecast process through working closely with the Practice Leads and the practice-level operations leads to advise on the SoR outlook. Report outputs to the Resourcing Lead to identify under/over utilisation issues ahead of time and plan to fill gaps or workshare as necessary.

  • Support the SBU’s gross margin improvement plan by driving adherence and improvement to project management processes particularly with respect to change management, including engagement with the Commercial Teams, and driving EC Usage.

  • Provide support with bidding and ensure that all bids are managed in line with the E&S and EWE governance processes.

  • Monitor and control the key Sub-Business Unit KPIs such as CU, GM, DQI, AR/WIP, EC Usage and EBITA

  • Support a transparent culture where both risks and opportunities to EBITA and cash flow are proactively identified, assessed, and managed.

Other activities

  • Perform the Project Approver 2 (PD2) role on the project portfolio in the SBU

  • Collaborate with the Project Managers, Project Approvers (Director) and Finance to understand project challenges, risks, opportunities and escalate/involve the right individuals (Commercial, Legal, Finance and Operations Director as appropriate).

  • With the support of the Project Performance Team, drive compliance with Project Reviews, Healthy Starts, Tier 1s, DQI Target, Contingency Management and Cash Performance.
