AECOM's Aquatic Ecology team is expanding and we’re looking for an experienced new team member to join us. The role is based in our Nottingham office & laboratory where you’ll join a technically diverse and enthusiastic team.
Our Aquatic Ecology team currently has 16 freshwater and marine ecologists based around the UK and Ireland. To help develop on the team’s skillset we’d like you to have demonstrable experience in the preparation, analysis and identification of freshwater and marine phytoplankton and diatom samples.
We are looking for a keen and confident aquatic ecologist who can offer the following;
Be an inclusive and friendly team member

A willingness to collaborate, with other ecologists and across a variety of adjacent teams
Be able to communicate at all levels and effectively share your knowledge and experience
Provide freshwater & estuarine phytoplankton and benthic algae, diatoms in particular, identification skills.
Be able to estimate chlorophyll concentration as an expression of algal biomass;
Contribute to field work in a range of aquatic habitats (macroinvertebrates, fish, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey) and provide support for the delivery of existing and new contracts.
Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in particular the ability to write concise technical reports;
Positively engage with Health and Safety issues associated with working in, on & near water and in relation to the operation of our aquatic ecology laboratory.
Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous;
Member of CIEEM, CIWEM or similar professional body; or eligible to qualify for this status;
Water Safety Training or equivalent (inland or offshore/sea survival);
Powerboat handling certificate (e.g. RYA Level 2);
First Aid qualification (e.g. Emergency First Aid at Work);
Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
