Job Description
AECOM Transportation in New England requires an experienced Transit Planner for our New England team based in our Rocky Hill, CT office. The position involves working on transit projects throughout New England and nationally, within our multimodal transportation planning team. This position requires a high level of expertise in transit planning and a commitment to advancing sustainable transportation solutions.
The Transit Planner will be responsible for:
Managing or leading tasks on projects such as multimodal corridor studies, complete street projects, active transportation projects, transportation safety projects, and bus operations.
Conducting comprehensive operations and service planning studies, bus stop siting, and feasibility studies.
Developing innovative transit alternatives, including microtransit, shared-ride partnerships, automated vehicles, and green energy alternatives.
Implementing transit technology solutions and conducting transportation decarbonization studies.
Performing bus rapid transit studies, strategic planning, transit performance analysis, and rural transit projects.
Executing transit consolidation studies, grant writing, Title VI projects, and transit policy and research projects.
Leading project management or serving as a task leader on small to large scale transit and multimodal transportation projects.
Supporting the development of sustainable mobility projects, including long-range transportation plans.
Collaborating with New England offices to support and develop the transportation planning practice throughout the region.
Analyzing planning projects related to transportation, including land use policies, project impacts, and long-range planning needs.
Defining regional and local transportation planning problems and priorities.
Preparing reports, recommendations, assessments, and impact statements.
Collaborating with land use planners, zoning professionals, economists, and travel demand modelers to address complex transportation, rail, and transit design issues.
Conducting and reviewing public information surveys to identify areas of public concern.
Leading public meetings or hearings to present planning proposals and gather feedback.
Supporting efforts in developing and implementing projects related to corridor planning, highway/roadway/complete streets, bus stops, and emerging transportation technologies.
Directing stakeholder engagement activities, data collection efforts, and the development of maps and graphics.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Systems or Logistics or related field plus six years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Transit agency or state department of transportation (public sector) experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to manage and work on several projects or issues simultaneously
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Possess a flair for creative/innovative ideas and strong industry knowledge demonstrated throughout their experience in the transit industry
A passion for transportation/transit planning and management with a mindset of continuous learning is essential

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $135,000.00.
