Job Description

Summary on posting:

Our rail team in Mississauga has an opportunity for a highly motivated Track and Civil Designer/Engineer to join our high performing team. With guidance and mentoring from our team of specialists, you will be given exposure to a wide range of projects across Ontario, Canada and North America, enabling you to build and further develop your technical and business development skills. We currently have Mississauga based opportunities, working in a hybrid arrangement.

Your scope of work will range from projects involving feasibility studies, preliminary to detailed designs, research, engineering and construction support. As part of a multi-disciplinary organization, this role will see you collaborating with other disciplines associated with the delivery of railway projects, giving you wider exposure and understanding across small, medium and large-scale projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Civil and Municipal design for rail projects including freight, passenger, commuter, and light rail;

  • Design for grading & drainage, Utility protection and/or relocation, roads, parking lots, and staging design;

  • Preparation of drawings and quantity take-off's;

  • Design of track and railway infrastructure in accordance with applicable regulations, laws, standards, etc. Typically used standards include AREMA, TCRP, CN, CP, Mx & EN.

  • Producing and checking a wide variety of track designs, grading models, DTM surface and applicable details;

  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.

  • Being able to work with LIDAR point clouds, manage, verify and control surveys and geographic data for design needs;

  • Utilize and maintain technical databases and file structures within project files;

  • Work with tight schedules, be flexible, and contribute in a high performing design team;

  • Proposal and Project assignments may include Commuter, Subway, Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Transit Storage and Maintenance Facilitates & Inter-modal terminals.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in track design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in freight, light rail and passenger transit projects

  • Knowledge of industry best practices including AREMA, TCRP and APTA

  • Working Knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRail

  • Skilled in technical writing, communicating and presenting and capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must have or the ability to obtain a P.Eng in the province of Ontario and a University degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Experience on alternative delivery procurement models for railway projects, such as Design-Built

  • Experience in track construction, including construction methodologies, destressing, surfacing, lining, etc and experience in delivering projects using BIM methods and technology driven solutions.

  • Knowledge of visual programming software including Dynamo and/or Grasshopper would be considered an asset;

  • Knowledge of Visual Studio, C++, Python, or other programming languages.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,000.00 - $120,000.00.
