Job Description
AECOM Mississauga is looking for a Casual Track Inspector to work on a client sites based in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitor the quality of work performed by contractors for track construction work (including new tracks, turnouts and all other track construction related work), including signal construction sites, either directly under AECOM supervision or for third parties, and including following duties:
Monitor and inspect track construction.
Monitor destressing and welding of rail.
Inspect the quality of materials used on-site.
Evaluate the progress of the project to determine if time schedules and payment requirements are being met.
Review and monitor contractor safety programs to assess that client requirements are met.
Coordinate with various Project Managers and prepare staffing schedules for track inspection team for track inspection requests for various projects.
Inspection of third party track work constructed during track closures, to ensure that the track constructed is safe for normal rail traffic on completion of the works.
Conduct In Service Tack Inspections prior to opening tracks for service after closures in accordance with client’s requirements.
Evaluation, inspection and reporting on existing tracks and making recommendations for maintenance and renewal projects.
Ensure the track construction work is performed in accordance with the clients engineering track standards requirements and in accordance with Contract Documents.
Participate in prework planning and post-work meetings with the client for Major Track Closures.
Review and comment on Contractor’s Work Plan Methodology submissions and permit documents in accordance with client’s requirement.
Prepare detailed Track Inspection Reports, memorandums as required by client based on its knowledge of client’s track standard documents.
Review and understand Contract Drawings and project specifications for track construction work.
Participate in the preparation of the bid documents, cost estimating and evaluation of contractors and administer and direct the construction phase.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum 8 years previous experience working within the Railway Right of Way on the construction and or maintenance of continuous welded rails and jointed track systems for freight, commuter rail services operating on CROR including multiple interlocking systems and transit LRT/Subway services.
Qualified for or able to obtain, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and current valid Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG) Inspectors Card are required.
Driver’s license and vehicle required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Skills (at least Word, Excel) with excellent writing and analytical skills and be able to review and comments on documents submitted by the Contractor.
Must have access to their own vehicle and be able to conduct site visits throughout the GTHA, Ontario and Canada.
Must be willing to work away from home for periods of up to two weeks.
Available to work weekends and night shifts as part of client’s requirement.
Flexible to be able to work planned continuous night shifts and weekend shifts.
Obtain necessary client trainings and certification as required for the work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical College Diploma
Ideally 15+ years of experience heavy rail track construction projects and/or heavy rail maintenance duties with Class 1 railway.
Ability to obtain eRailsafe certification for work on both CN and CP property (requires passing criminal background check).
Ability to obtain Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification for work on Metrolinx property.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of current Railway Engineering Track Standards.
Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) designation, licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
Ability to work in a collaborative work environment and effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and internal and external clients.
Demonstrated experience in construction of transit facilities is an asset.
Demonstrated experience in railway track construction sites, field engineering, and site work inspections.
Keen desire to learn new skills.
Excellent teamwork attitude.
Flexibility to quickly absorb new information and take on new and challenging assignments.
Related experience and general understanding of work related to heavy civil grading and/or structural projects, including shoring, retaining walls, etc. would be an asset.
Additional Information
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $39.00/hour - $58.00/hour.
