Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Traffic Intern for employment in the Middleton, Wisconsin office.

This position is expected to begin in June 2024.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist traffic engineers and project managers on projects related to traffic capacity analysis, feasibility studies, traffic modeling, signal design, signal timing, signal systems, ITS, traffic operations, safety analysis, traffic impact analyses, bicycle and pedestrian studies, and other related traffic engineering work.

  • Design alternatives for intersections and other transportation improvements based upon guidance from senior staff, client requirements, and industry standards.

  • Compile, process, and assess a variety of data to identify trends and draw conclusions that can be used to enhance operations/maintenance of transportation infrastructure.

  • Perform plan preparation associated with roadway infrastructure improvements.

  • Work under the direct supervision of senior staff to develop plans and calculate quantities for transportation improvements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related field with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

  • Candidates must have completed one year of study in their university program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed transportation design course or other applicable civil courses.

  • Interest in transportation engineering (highway design/traffic engineering).

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software.

  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Understands fundamental engineering concepts.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively; verbal and written.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Middleton, Wisconsin. The selected candidate must be available to work in Middleton, Wisconsin on a scheduled basis.

  • Non-Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (Wisconsin locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The hourly range for this position is $16.52 - $22.71/hr.
