AECOM’s Natural Resource Practice has an exciting opportunity for a proven Ecologist / Botanist to join our team in Melbourne.

This role offers technical growth through working across a range of environments both in Victoria and interstate. You will contribute as part of an established team as well leading projects of all sizes for a diverse array of clients. You will often be required to provide ecological consultancy and advisory services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to both internal and external clients.

Job Description

What will a day in this role look like:

  • Field-based ecology survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora and fauna survey and Vegetation Quality Assessments (VQA).

  • Leading projects across a wide range of ecological disciplines and clients

  • Ecological impact assessment and offsetting for a range of projects and scale

  • Supporting internal clients with delivering the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects

  • Working independently, or with other ecologists and professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of ecology surveys; analysis and evaluation of results, impact assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies

  • Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological and Environmental Impact Assessment projects.

Qualifications

What are we looking for from you?

  • An understanding of the principles of Habitat Hectare assessments (VQA accreditation preferable but is not a prerequisite)

  • Excellent field skills and experience conducting vegetation surveys in a broad range of environments, particularly within Victoria

  • Proven experience of habitat, and protected species surveys

  • Experience with GIS desktop and data collection packages such as ESRI ArcGIS and Fieldmaps

  • Ability to record data efficiently and methodically

  • Previous work experience in the ecology sector within a professional consultancy (or relevant NGO)

  • Victorian driving licence and capacity to work outdoors on short and extended field programs

  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and Victorian environmental legislation relating to the environment and an understanding of the relevant planning systems (e.g. EPBC Act, FFG Act, Planning and Environment Act);

  • Ability to assist on interstate fieldwork (if necessary)

  • Undergraduate degree classification in environmental science, natural resource management or similar.
