AECOM Transport Professional's - All levels - The North and Scotland in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Our Consulting business is looking for transportation professionals at all levels across the North of England (in our offices in Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester) and Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen).

AECOM has a wide range of multi-disciplinary teams, a global reach and diversified market penetration. Our clients include government bodies, transport agencies and operators, developers, local authorities, and international clients. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated techniques, encourage innovation and offer a comprehensive internal training programme to promote professional and technical development. Successful candidates will have significant opportunities to accelerate and progress in your career.

You will be supported in this role by like-minded individuals and a team with international recognition in many areas of transport/development planning and economics. Collectively, you will form a team that delivers quality products that satisfy our clients' needs.

Below are examples of the core type of work that we do within the planning team:

Business Cases – rail schemes such as the Northumberland Line, highway schemes such as Doncaster to Darlington and A64 for National Highways, bus priority schemes for Gateshead and Sunderland city councils and active travel schemes for Leeds, Gateshead and Durham councils.

Transport Appraisal studies – transport appraisal in line with Green Book (WebTAG and STAG). We are concluding the Second Strategic Transport Projects Review in Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland, which provides the strategic business case for the next twenty years of investment by the Scottish Government in transport. Through projects like this, we have a strong working knowledge of the appraisal process and have been helping the client develop those processes to keep abreast of changing policy landscapes.

Strategy development includes bus service improvement plans for Transport North East and Newcastle City Council and transport strategies for Harrogate Borough Council and Oldham Council.

Innovative Data analysis – we have supported key clients, including Transport Scotland in new and innovative ways to use data to understand transport demand and the likely response to interventions. We have been confirmed by clients as bringing innovation through the use of data to enhance models, including the National Transport Model for Scotland. This includes using data innovatively to assist in the presentation of concepts and appraisal outputs in a way that is accessible to people. We have been supporting clients, particularly during COVID, when the ability to collect data was limited through enhanced analysis of mobile phone data. Our teams are experienced in developing algorithms and using tools such as Python to maximise the effectiveness of data in the work we do.

Key local authority frameworks – YORconsult, NEPO, SCAPE and ESPO, Excel
