AECOM Sustainability Consultant in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM has a new job vacancy for a Sustainability Consultant to join our Northern Sustainability team, which has an established track record of providing sustainability and energy services to policy, research, commercial and public sector clients and has played a leading role in developing industry guidance in these areas. The Role, based in Manchester, will particularly support two areas of work:

  • Environmental Assessment services – Our Manchester team deliver a range of assessor services including BREEAM, DREAM, CEEQUAL/BREEAM Infrastructure, Ska, LEED, HQM and WELL.

  • Energy Modelling services – Our team undertake IES and SAP based modelling for a wide range of commercial clients – Experience of IES and SAP modelling software would useful to support flexibility across the portfolio of core services delivered.

We are looking for a certified BREEAM assessor able to step into project delivery from day one.

About the Team

Our sustainability team, based in Manchester (5), Liverpool (1) and Leeds (4), are also involved in a broad range of services including district energy feasibility and design, sustainability and energy strategy work.

Our Manchester office is situated on Whitworth Street near to Oxford Road station and a 10minute walk from Piccadilly station. In addition to our specialist sustainability team, our Manchester office also accommodates a wide range of other capabilities including our masterplanning, acoustics, civils, architecture, planning and building engineering teams.

Current projects which we are delivering include:

Trafford Park Line – Environmental advisor and CEEQUAL assessor for the delivery of an extension to the tram line from Manchester, through Trafford Park to the Trafford Centre;

University of Manchester Environmental Sustainability Advisor – Providing client-side sustainability support to the University of Manchester in delivering their ambitious development programme

Clatterbridge Cancer Care, Liverpool - BREEAM assessment services supporting our MEP team delivering an 11th floor cancer care hospital

Beverley, Huddersfield, Trafford Park, & Northallerton District Energy Networks - Connecting city centre buildings together and supplying with low carbon heat and power.

England Part L – We are providing technical support to MHCLG in their review of Part L and F of the Building Regulations including the future homes standard.

Job Duties:

  • Take an independent role in the delivery of environmental assessment work to support our team of assessors

  • Assist with the commercial and financial control of your projects

  • Report writing and production of technical reports and documents

  • Interfacing, communicating and building relationships with clients and key contacts around the business and wider industry

Specific Skills Required

  • Experience of independently delivering BREEAM Assessment services from preassessment to handover and certification

  • Proven experience in the delivery of projects to quality, time and budget.

  • Experience of preparing good quality written reports, presenting technical information in a coherent and accessible way to a non-technical audience

  • Be client facing – with good communication, presentation, time management, problem solving, organisation and prioritisation skills

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in environmental assessment

  • Degree educated or equivalent in an engineering or science discipline

  • Ideally educated to MEng or MSc level

  • BREEAM Assessor

Preferred Qualifications

  • DIO Security Clearance - Must be a UK resident with continuous residency over the last 5 years

  • WELL experience

  • Experience of commercial building energy modelling using IES

  • Experience of residential building energy modelling using SAP and or PHPP (Passive House)

  • Experience of delivering sustainability and energy strategies
