Job Summary

Our Landscape Architecture team in Manchester is looking for a Senior Landscape Architect with extensive experience in public realm design to deliver high quality design projects across the country. The candidate will be required to assist in developing the client base and expand the opportunities across a variety of market sectors.

The candidate will demonstrate a clear understanding and experience of the sector and be fully conversant with current best practice in public realm design. We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong development skills who wishes to lead in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team as well as undertake line management and mentoring of graduates on their pathways to chartership.

Nationally the Landscape Architecture team comprises some 70 staff. The Manchester team has an established track record of successfully delivering high-profile landscape design schemes throughout the country from feasibility studies, detailed design and construction on wide ranging contracts with a variety of clients from the private and public sector, including HS2, EA, Local Authorities, contractors and developers. We are looking to enhance this team with individuals with a sound technical background in design that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

A portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects includes:

  • Detailed design and implementation of public realm for University of Salford

  • Detailed design and contract administration for upgrade of Leicester’s heritage quarter

  • Chesterfield Station and Public Realm Masterplan

  • Clough Hall Park, Newcastle under Lyme

  • Prescot Town Centre

  • Bereavement Centre, East Riding of Yorkshire

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Prepare concept designs in collaboration with other specialist disciplines

  • Undertake presentations to stakeholder groups, lead design workshops

  • Produce drawings using Autodesk Suite, with the necessary level of detail for public realm projects at various stages of development: studies, conceptual design, detailed design and construction

  • Produce technical reports such as public realm strategies and feasibility studies

  • Report to landscape team leader and interface directly with other team members, and establish strong working relationships with internal teams

  • Strong development skills and ability to develop and manage work of others

  • Technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to develop and mentor junior staff and undertake a line management role

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Undertake bidding and assist in compiling compelling tenders

  • Assist in developing external clients

  • Develop the internal AECOM market and collaborate with all business lines

  • Undertake project management using AECOM’s internal PM software

  • Aware of and understand the AECOM IMS procedures

  • Performing basic architectural/engineering calculations.

  • Preparing specifications, reports and related data tables.

  • Maintaining liaison with design and drafting groups.

  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving drawings as required.

  • Under the direction of the Supervising Architect, may independently perform advanced technical assignments of various complexities within approved schedules and budgets.

  • May coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project.

  • May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in working for local authority and private sector clients in design and delivery of high-quality public realm projects

  • Proficient and experienced user of AutoCAD and the Adobe suite of products to produce high quality technical drawings and details within a live project environment

  • Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders using a variety of media, including workshops and design charrettes to convey your designs

  • Ability to convey ideas and responses to client briefs with written and illustrated technical reports
