AECOM Senior Hydraulic (River) Modeller in Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Summary

You will be involved in the delivery and leadership of flood and coastal management projects for public and private sector clients at home & globally. We are working for the Environment Agency, local authorities, major infrastructure providers such as Network Rail and Highways England, for water companies and for international clients.

Your role will include building and calibrating complex hydraulic models, analysing and presenting results, training junior modellers and undertaking model reviews, both internal QA reviews and on behalf of our clients. You will work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams for scheme design, appraisal and assessment and will you engage directly with our clients and their technical teams. We are looking for a focus on quality and will expect you to contribute innovative ideas to improve our modelling ways of working.

Knowledge and experience of one, or more, of the following hydraulic modelling disciplines:

  • River and catchment modelling

  • Coastal modelling

  • Integrated catchment modelling

  • Wastewater network modelling

  • Water quality modelling

  • GIS and coding for modelling

  • Experience of working successfully within or leading multidisciplinary teams.

  • An innovative outlook and digital skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignements.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline, (examples include Civil or Environmental Engineering, Maths, GIS, Geography, Environmental Science but other qualifications will be considered)

  • Chartered member of a relevant institution (e.g. CIWEM or ICE) or working towards Chartership
