Job Description

AECOMs UK&I Water Resources team comprises of over 170 Engineers and Consultants nationally, delivering projects of varying scales and complexity from local, national and international multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

The Manchester Water Resources team forms one of AECOM’s UK hubs and centres of excellence for flood risk and hydraulic modelling. Our Manchester team provides technical services into a broad range of flood risk and water resources projects across the UK, with particular emphasis on Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management, project appraisal, business case development, planning and consenting. Our key clients include Lead Local Flood Risk Authorities, the Environment Agency, Network Rail, water companies and major infrastructure providers.

We are looking to appoint a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to support the continued growth of the Manchester Water Resources team. You will be responsible for leading the technical delivery of flood risk modelling and water management projects across the UK. We envisage that you will use your experience to develop robust technical approaches for the delivery of modelling projects, and to take ownership of delivery of these projects to ensure that they are completed to a high standard. You will lead on the implementation of modelling best practice, undertake quality assurance reviews and provide mentorship to support the technical development of junior members of the team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Technically lead and deliver 1D-2D fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling projects.

  • Support other aspects of technical work across the Water Resources discipline including hydrological assessments, flood defence design, strategic flood risk assessments, design of sustainable urban drainage systems and environmental appraisal.

  • Undertake quality assurance of technical work within your area of expertise.

  • Mentor and support the development of junior colleagues.

  • Take ownership of project delivery through supporting the management of project programmes, budgets and quality assurance procedures.

  • Take a proactive approach to managing client relationships and expectations

  • Engage with wider business lines to develop and strengthen internal AECOM cross-sector working relationships.

  • Assist with the preparation of bids and proposals.

Qualifications

  • BSc or BEng (or equivalent) in Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or another related discipline.

  • Practical experience in the application of 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling techniques within the UK flood and water industry, including software packages such as Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW and/ or InfoWorks ICM.

  • A working knowledge of hydrological flow estimation, including industry standard techniques (WINFAP-FEH, ReFH2).

  • A track record of leading the successful delivery of flood risk and water management projects in the UK, including liaison with private/public sector clients and regulators.

  • Personable and team oriented, with the enthusiasm to provide technical mentorship and support to junior team members.

  • Chartered or progressing towards chartership with ICE or CIWEM.
