We are recruiting for a Principal Consultant in Business Change & Transformation to join AECOM’s Strategy+ (S+) team in the UK and Ireland.

The Principal Consultant leads major client engagements, providing expert advice and guidance to drive strategic initiatives and deliver measurable value. This role involves designing and overseeing the implementation of tailored solutions, mentoring team members, and contributing to business development and the growth of the company's capabilities.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Client Engagement:

  • Emotional Intelligence, giving clients empathy as well as challenge to help them move towards their goals. Self-awareness to manage your own state and remain calm no matter how emotional the situation may appear.

  • Lead major client engagements, offering expert advice and strategic insights to address complex challenges.

  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their needs and objectives, ensuring that solutions are aligned with their goals.

  • Story telling capability and the ability to stimulate hope and confidence in the face of some of the most complex and demanding challenges facing our clients.

  • Confident and capable facilitation of small and large group settings particularly those where there are multiple stakeholders with conflicting perspectives and priorities. The ability to design appropriate interventions and ‘hold space’ to guide the group to new insights, consensus and action.

  • Strategic Initiative Design and Oversight:

  • Systems thinking capability, able to synthesise as well as analyse the problem and solution space. The ability to think divergently and convergently and switch modes as required.

  • Design strategic initiatives that deliver measurable value to clients, ensuring projects meet or exceed expectations.

  • Oversee the implementation of strategic initiatives, monitoring progress and adjusting as needed to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Lead project teams and ensure that all deliverables meet the highest standards of quality.

  • Mentorship and Team Development:

  • Mentor and support senior consultants and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Act as a role model and leader within the team, promoting best practices and a collaborative work environment.

  • Business Development:

  • Identify & pursue opportunities for new projects and services, contributing to the growth of Strategy+.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, enhancing the company's reputation and expanding its client base.

  • Capability Growth:

  • Support the continuous development of a top-performing Change and Transformation capability within the Advisory Services.

  • Knowledge of industry trends and innovations, integrating new approaches and methodologies into client & internal engagements

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Consulting Experience: Proven experience as a change and/or transformation consultant. Experience with infrastructure projects or organizations is a plus.

  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Skilled in developing and implementing communication and stakeholder management plans.

  • Change Implementation: Capable of identifying the need for change, developing an implementation plan, and overseeing its execution to ensure success.

  • Complex Change Delivery: Experienced in delivering change in complex, collaborative environments.

  • Workshop Facilitation: Adept at facilitating workshops with internal and external customers across different seniority levels.

  • Change Methodologies: In-depth understanding of change methodologies (APMG, PROCI, etc.). Knowledge of organizational change and design is a plus.

  • Client Guidance: Able to guide clients and stakeholders through change in a patient and professional manner.

  • Problem-Solving Initiative: Initiative and desire to tackle complex problems, especially in helping teams navigate difficult conversations.

  • Handling Complexity: High capacity to manage complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity. Able to adapt your thinking on the spot while preparing for and forecasting likely scenarios.

  • Emotional Intelligence: Demonstrates emotional intelligence and self-awareness, adjusting your approach based on context to create a sense of hope and energy amidst complexity and uncertainty.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work away from the office to meet client or business demands.

  • Professional Presence: The gravitas of a strategic advisor, the energy of a coach, and the empathy of a therapist.

  • Team Collaboration: Strong team player who thrives in low-hierarchy environments, working together to support and lift each other through challenging times.

  • Sector Experience: Experience in Aviation, Rail, Highways, Defence, Energy, and Water sectors is a plus.

  • Location and Travel: Based in the UK with the ability to travel regularly to other locations across the UK, Europe, and further afield as required.
