Our Town Planning Practice is seeking to recruit an experienced rail-focused Associate Town Planner based in one of AECOM’s key locations - London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds.
With an exciting portfolio of high-profile infrastructure projects we need to recruit a suitably experienced consultant to help deliver our expanding workload. Working as an AECOM planning consultant will involve you in a range of prestigious infrastructure projects for our clients in the rail and highways sectors.

The management and delivery of major infrastructure projects, including Transport & Works Act Orders and Development Consent Orders.
The management and delivery of planning applications and post-submission work, including discharging planning conditions.
Collaborative working, managing programmes and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
The management and development of the Town Planning Practice.
Generating opportunities, producing high quality tender documents and winning new business.
Providing planning advice, including the application of permitted development rights.
Monitoring and managing project budgets.
As a staff specialist, serves as a technical specialist for the office in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles or processes for an assigned area of responsibility (i.e., subject matter, function, type of facility or industry).
Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organising, executing and coordinating assignments that are more complex than those handled by Planner 4.
Thorough understanding of rail sector permitted development rights and how these are applied.
Experience of promoting development under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990.
Planning consultancy experience, including consenting infrastructure projects.
Sound knowledge of UK planning policy and legislation and a working knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment legislation.
Technical and commercial project management and project leadership experience.
The confidence and ability to provide a clear and authoritative advice.
Ability to work on own initiative and deliver high quality work to-programme and budget.
Experience of identifying, evaluating and managing planning risk.
Experience of preparing successful commercial tenders.
Client focused with good interpersonal skills and collaborative working approach.
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Project.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The Development Consent Order regime under the Planning Act 2008.
The Transport & Works Act 1992 consenting regime.
Experience of town planning in the rail sector.
Providing project leadership and direction as part of collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams including an understanding of infrastructure design and delivery.
Identifying and evaluating alternative site and design options.
Multi-disciplinary consultancy including team development and management, and the preparation and implementation of growth strategies.
- Full Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional town planning organisation.
