AECOM Aeronautical Ground Lighting Engineer in Manchester, United Kingdom
Increased workload both at home and overseas within our Aeronautical Ground Lighting business requires us to appoint an Aeronautical Ground Lighting Engineer.
The new appointment will help strengthen our existing AGL here in the UK and in also Australia /New Zealand. The role will involve working in both the Military and Civil sectors. In order to meet the demands of our international client base as well as, travelling in the UK Overseas can also be expected. The role will involve design works, surveys and inspections as well regular site visits
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the AGL industry and be conversant with the AGL standards and practices. We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong development skills who wishes to assist in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable AGL solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.
Nationally our Aeronautical Ground Lighting team comprises of 5 experienced AGL engineers and provides technical support to the AECOM business worldwide. The UK team has an established track record of successfully delivering AGL schemes worldwide and it is this strength that has as helped it become an established center of excellence within the business and the wider industry. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background in aviation that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
The team provides services ranging from project management, feasibility studies, detailed design, due diligence, mandatory inspection and construction on a wide range of civil and military airfields and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have an AGL interface. Our AGL team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients.

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Produce drawings using the Autodesk Suite of software (AutoCAD Civils 3D), with the necessary level of detail as required for AGL projects at various stages of development: studies, conceptual design, detailed design and construction.
Reporting to the design team leader you will also interface directly with other team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams
You will have strong development skills and have the ability to develop and manage the work of others if and when required.
Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to teach and develop junior staff.
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.
Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams, particularly within AECOM’s transportation division
Be aware of and understand the AECOM IMS procedures, their importance and their application to projects.
Minimum Requirements :
You will have experience in AGL sector such as AGL design, implementation, airfield operational and safety requirements and inspection you should also have an understanding of the AGL and civil engineering interfaces and associated best practices
You will be ideally be an experienced user of AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce high-quality technical drawings and details within a live project environment.
You will be required to obtain UK Government Security clearance.
Knowledge of UK, Internal and military AGL design codes, such CAP 168,EASA,ICAO and the RA’s
- Experience of some or all of the following is also highly desirable: Revit, Civils 3D, Project Wise, Amtech Electrical design packages.
Candidates should ideally be a charted engineer or be working towards achieving charted status for an engineering position, however where candidates lack the formal qualification but are able to demonstrate a strong background in AGL design and installation they should not be deterred from apply for a technician position
