Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Level Waste Management Specialist to support a growing waste management practice in the Programs Group within our Environmental Business Line. In this role the Senior Waste Management Specialist will interface directly with multiple project teams and clients to provide a range of waste management support across a diverse range of environmental projects. The position requires a mix of strong technical, interpersonal, and organizational skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment to solve a variety of waste management problems.

Job Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Performing a variety of waste determinations for various waste streams generated by decommissioning, demolition, and remediation activities, including providing technical guidance related to RCRA (40CFR), Waste characterizations, and Waste Regulations, and completion of Haz determinations for new SDS for client facility projects

  • Supporting the development waste profile data to support completion of manifests, profiles, and shipping documentation in support of disposal of wastes generated from decommissioning, demolition, and remediation activities

  • Implementing written procedures and plans for all facets of waste characterization, management, and disposition

  • Providing guidance and instructions to field teams regarding sorting, segregation, size reduction, packaging, and securement of wastes generated from decommissioning, demolition, and remediation activities

  • Collaborating with other team members to determine appropriate types of characterization samples for various project waste streams

  • Performing vendor assessments of various hazardous and/or radioactive Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities

  • Identifying prohibited items in waste streams that require segregation and special handling

  • Performing various DOT calculations

  • Writing and/or assisting with completion of project-specific Waste Management plans

  • Assisting with a variety of client facility compliance reporting needs (EPCRA, etc.)

  • Supporting project proposal development, as needed

  • Performing detail checks on a variety of waste management documentation

  • Completing Quality Control review forms for applicable documentation

  • Supporting project specific cost forecasting

  • Complying with data integrity and AECOM security policies

  • Reviewing invoices for AECOM billing to clients and subcontractors

  • Supporting invoice inquiry checks

  • Ability to obtain licenses and certifications relevant to the role

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related technical field and 6+ years of relevant experience

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Computer proficiency and literacy, including the use of the MS Office suite of applications, to generate reports, spreadsheets, and data

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of waste characterization

  • This role is subject to passing a pre-employment background check, MVR check and Drug & Alcohol Screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years performing similar job responsibilities as those described herein

  • Formal and/or recurring waste management training (McCoy and Associates)

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and current annual 8-hour refresher

  • Experience working with private sector, governmental and other stakeholders managing wastes

  • Ability to manage and mentor lower level staff

Additional Information

  • Job can be performed remotely.

  • Working hours must include 4 hours daily between 8 a.m. Eastern Time and 5 p.m. Eastern Time

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $110,000.00 - $135,000.00.
