Job Description

AECOM ’s West Region is actively seeking a highly motivated Geotechnical Design Lead to join the Los Angeles, California Geo-Civil team. The candidate will support various types of geotechnical related projects from the planning stage to the construction phase. The role will also support project management and business development for our local team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Direct field exploration program development that will include soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing and geotechnical instrumentation.

  • Supervise geotechnical design and construction including inspection of the construction of geotechnical features like retaining walls, ground improvement, foundations, dams, levees, slopes and tunnels.

  • Oversee geotechnical design parameter development and geotechnical engineering related design such as shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, transportation infrastructures, embankments and cut and fill slopes, and tunnels.

  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio Suite, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, APILE, Plaxis, Settle3, and DeepSoil for geotechnical analyses.

  • Prepare and review Geotechnical work plans, Geotechnical Reports, geotechnical engineering related submittals, etc.

  • Review design plans and specifications and for compliance with geotechnical recommendations and communicate with multiple disciplines and provide design improvement recommendations.

  • Review and respond to construction submittals and RFIs.

  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers.

  • Meet with clients and participate in proposals.

  • Project management – tracking scope, schedule and budget.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • BA/BS and +6 years Civil, Structural, and/or Geotechnical Engineering or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • California PE license or ability to obtain a California PE license within 6 months.

Preferred Qualification:

  • 10+ years of local project experience.

  • Strong transportation experience related to highway/bridge/airport/port projects.

  • California GE license.

  • Local (Southern California) project and BD experience.

  • Fluent in FLAC 9.0 2D and 3D Software for SSI modeling.

  • Solid understanding of performing and managing projects and people.

  • Ability to manage projects within budget, scope & schedule and effectively manage engineering staff.

  • The ability to work well within a team.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $115,000.00 - $140,000.00.
