Job Summary

We are looking to recruit 2 experienced Commercial Managers to join our team in London. We’re looking for candidates that come with experience in, or from the construction industry and must have cost modelling experience as well as claims and commercial deals.

Aecom’s commercial function is designed to link the operational requirements of the business with the key corporate functions such as finance, legal and risk. Reporting into our COO, the role ensures our bids and projects are commercially robust; ensuring areas such as contracts, liability, warranties, payment terms, security instruments, tax, f\x, insurance and compliance have been suitably addressed. Advice and input will also be provided into complex pricing structures and models and ongoing project reviews.

The role will sit across all 4 of our end markets and will work with end market teams as necessary, to ensure that the project is commercially focused from the outset as well as providing ongoing support during project delivery and where necessary leading the dispute resolution process.

You will take some responsibility for ensuring that all project proposals that require delegations of authority approval are referred to the appropriate individual or risk committee for the purpose of seeking approval.

This is an ideal opportunity for experienced commercial managers to work on a broader scale within a global business and apply their skills to support and inform a wider function.


  • Provide risk and commercial advice during the bid and project lifecycle to assess performance and provide support to the wider transportation business, project, market sector and/or business development leadership.

  • Support the commercial strategies on bids and support or lead on contractual negotiations.

  • Support and manage the development of risk committee submittals and take the lead position on key commercial issues on risk calls

  • Work with various bids and proposals teams to support and critically analyse the pricing documents, qualifications and project execution methodology.

  • Liaise with other corporate teams such as finance, legal, HR, Insurance, Tax and the office of risk management to provide all financial and commercial inputs into bids and proposals

  • With support from the finance function provide effective reporting and forecasting of the commercial performance within the transportation business.

  • Carry out detailed analyses of challenged projects and report on the issues and findings from both a commercial and finance compliance perspective.

  • Conduct lessons learned reviews to identify lessons learned and disseminate as appropriate.

  • Support the commercial team’s business improvement initiatives such as the standardization of models and processes as well as the approach and tools used by projects to monitor and control their performance.

  • Ensure changes are managed rigorously with a focus on commercial implications of change, manage commercial risk and opportunity generally.

  • Ensure that activities meet both internal company standards and external regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements

As above, you must have experience in the construction industry or have experienced working in that field (as a client for example).

You must have cost modelling experience as well as claims and commercial deals due to the level this role will join the business we need people who are already experienced in this area.

Preferred Qualifications

As above you must have construction industry experience with preferably a degree in a business, finance, law or engineering discipline. Post graduate business qualifications are highly advantageous. A qualification in accountancy, surveying or law e.g. ACCA, ACMA, CPA, MRICS, Law Society would be advantageous.
