Our UK&I T&D team is spread across Aberdeen, Ashford, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Croydon, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, London Aldgate, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Plymouth, St Albans. If you are not located near a main office, we will consider a remote-working arrangement.

The Role

AECOM is recruiting for a (pre-construction focused) Design Manager to join our UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) department with focus on large Middle-Eastern infrastructure projects. Our T&D team delivers HV design for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltage levels. The primary focus of this role is pre-construction design for large-scale infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels normally between 132kV to 400kV. Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance on existing or new substations and other infrastructure.

The work typically comes from:

  • Major projects in the Middle-East where AECOM is delivering a diverse multi-disciplinary service

  • Large projects and frameworks with transmission network operators mostly in UK and Ireland but also in Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

  • Client and owners engineer role on construction of HV infrastructure

  • Connections of renewable generation and hyperscale data centres

  • Internal AECOM clients delivering large industrial and electrification projects

In addition, to the engineering responsibilities, this role includes some support to bidding, project and quality management. 

Minimum Requirements

*Required/Essential Skills & Experience *

  • Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.

  • Extensive experience in high voltage infrastructure FEED design, detailed design or owner’s engineer services.

  • Experience designing the HV infrastructure across the full project lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design.

  • Good team player with a client-focused mindset with strong customer facing skills.

*Desirable Skills & Experience *

  • Project management (incl. budget, time and quality).

  • Experience of managing multi-discipline high voltage engineering projects

  • Experience of design & site construction review

The role is focused on primary plant, including overhead lines and high voltage underground cables, but knowledge of secondary system design will be advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
