The Principal Pavement Engineer will work under the guidance of the Associate and will be responsible for the design, site inspection, materials specification and research of various types pavement projects.
The successful candidate will be experienced in delivering the following to a high level of confidence:
Delivering pavement projects, including investigation reports, design projects and site supervision.
Managing fieldwork projects including commercial and health and safety requirements.
Performing airfields/roads pavement inspection and report treatment recommendations.
Pavement analysis, design, material specification and reporting.
Implementing plans for development of pavement & materials services, with a good understanding and application of sustainable solutions, carbon modelling and recycling design.
Perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations.
Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures, specifications or methods developed in previous assignments.
Identifies discrepancies in results.
Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
Performs work in accordance with the agreed budget and schedule with little or no supervision. Implementing the technical quality requirements, addressing the project brief and meeting client requirements.
Implementing the technical quality requirements, addressing the project brief and meeting the client delivery deadline.
Working as part of the wider pavement team, liaising with laboratory and operations staff to understand and deliver the project technical brief. Supporting project managers and other team members.
Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
Provides commercial guidance when developing proposals and in the delivery of projects.
Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
Our Pavement Engineering team in Nottingham is currently looking for a Principal Pavement Engineer with extensive experience in UK pavement design, pavement evaluation and materials assessment.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Associate and will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, design, site inspection, materials specification and research of various types of pavement projects.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and pragmatic individual who wishes to assist in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. Our Pavement Engineering team is based within our Nottingham office. Although we have always offered remote working opportunities, due to the current climate most of the team are working from home. The team is well respected as experts in their field and require an individual with sound technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team.
Our clients are from the private and public sector and our leading UK clients include Highways England, Transport for London and a number of local authority organisations.

Knowledge of pavement engineering demonstrated by experience of pavement design, investigation and research.
Knowledge or experience of road and airfield pavement engineering projects.
Knowledge or experience of UK pavement design methodologies and contract documentation, including MCHW.
Experience of pavement investigation projects for maintenance design and failure investigation.
Knowledge of materials specification and behavior underlying standard specifications.
Knowledge of sustainable solutions, carbon modelling and recycling options.
Working knowledge of the preparation of proposals and communication with clients.
Experience of international airfield/road standards is an advantage.
Experience of DIO airfield inspection is an advantage.
Experience of non-DMRB pavement design is an advantage.
