Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking an enthusiastic Senior Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our growing Environmental Liability Solutions: Remediation Services, land contamination, team based from our Leeds office. The successful candidate will deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients and for a wide range of end markers (including: chemicals, industrials, redevelopment, public sector, infrastructure, power, mining). The successful candidate will be highly motivated and willing to work as part of a local team and with the wider ELS team across the UK on specific projects. The candidate will strive to a high level of technical quality and project management.

Job Duties:

  • Undertaking and co-ordinating contaminated land projects in accordance with industry standard guidance including CLR 11.

  • Scoping and preparing Phase 1 and Phase 2 reporting.

  • Experience of the design of remediation systems and their implementation and validation.

  • Preparing environmental baseline conditions reports.

  • Working as part of integrated multi-disciplinary teams (including: geotechnics, civils, structures).

  • Provide decisive proactive advice to clients on land contamination risks.

  • Preparing and agreeing proposals for works scopes in direct liaison with key clients.

  • Managing project delivery of internal teams and appointed sub-contractors.

  • Preparation of Health and Safety plans in accordance with the CDM 2015 regulations.

  • Liaison with AECOM contaminated land assessment teams across the UK, Europe and globally where specific expertise are required.

  • Being familiar with AECOM quality management system and ensure its effective implementation by the team for all projects and proposals;

  • Provide mentoring to more junior members of the team.

  • Proactively engage with the culture of the business.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Sound understanding of project management principals.

  • Detailed understanding of industry processes including those set out in CLR11.

  • Ability to undertake generic quantitative risk assessments for human health, controlled waters, ground gases.

  • Knowledge of waste management guidance.

  • Experience of drafting proposals for land contamination and remediation projects.

  • Experience of industrials/ chemicals/ pharmaceuticals sites.

  • Full clean driver’s license.

  • Excellent working understanding of H&S standards and working practices.

  • Clear communication skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience of project managing and writing technical deliverables for complex sites with multiple soil and ground water issues.

  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Experience of working in the chemicals, power, infrastructure and pharmaceuticals sectors.

  • Experience of gas holder investigation and remediation desirable but not essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or Master’s Degree or PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. environmental science; geology; environmental engineering).

  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation (e.g. Geological Society, CIWEM, ICE).
