AECOM Principal Landscape Architect - LVIA in Leeds, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Principal Landscape Architect to join our team in the UK ideally based in Leeds but we would also consider candidates in Birmingham, Chesterfield, Liverpool or Manchester. As a member of one of the UK’s largest and most diverse landscape practices, you will take a lead on a range of types and sizes of projects, including strategic planning, major infrastructure, urban regeneration and environmental enhancement schemes. We will consider applicants with a wide range of experience, a proven track record in landscape planning, including LVIA and TVIA, is essential.

We are looking for a team player with good technical skills who wishes to be involved in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and challenging. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team.

Nationally our Landscape Architecture team comprises some 102 staff and provides one-stop access to a variety of services.

The team provides services ranging from feasibility studies, detailed design and construction on a wide range of contracts and also supports other AECOM business lines including transport and infrastructure. Our Leeds team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients from the private and public sector. Our leading clients include Leicester City Council, Homes and Communities Agency, HS2, the National Trust, the Environment Agency and numerous Local Authorities, as well as leading contractors and developers.

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job / project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Management of projects, including contractual, financial and programme management.

  • Production of LVIA chapters for inclusion into Environmental Statements.

  • Contribute to securing and delivering new work.

  • Produce or oversee the production of drawings and other technical documentation using appropriate software, with the necessary level of detail as required at various stages of development: strategies, conceptual design, detailed design and production information.

  • Line Management, coaching and development of Graduate and Consultant level team members

  • Establish strong working relationships with other members of the landscape team and internal teams across the business.

Minimum Requirements

  • Technically competent in preparing landscape and/or townscape and visual impact assessments and appraisals LVIA / TVIA and evidence-base documents to support development plans and policies in accordance with best practice.

  • CMLI with post Chartership experience.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the UK legal and planning system with respect to landscape architecture.

  • An understanding of project management, including financial control and reporting and programme management and ability to manage own budgets.

  • Experience of some or all of the following would also be advantageous: ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civils 3D, Revit, LSS, ProjectWise and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Landscape Institute accredited Bachelors degree, Diploma and/or Masters degree.

  • Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute
