Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Mid-Level Interior Architect to be based in Chicago, IL or Indianapolis, IN offices and work on a hybrid schedule.

About Buildings + Places:

The Illinois/Indiana offices of AECOM’s Buildings + Places business line comprise a dynamic and growing team of diverse professionals committed to excellence in architecture and engineering for the built environment. The successful candidate will be supported in professional growth while contributing to an energized design practice addressing exciting projects throughout the region.

Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism and planning inclusive of landscape design, strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This diverse team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Chicago and Indianapolis studios focus on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Higher Education and Federal market sectors. Job Summary/Responsibilities:

As an Interior Architect, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and executing both the design vision and technical documentation for various projects. Working closely with the Project Manager and Senior Designer, you'll be involved from the schematic design (SD) phase through construction administration (CA), including on-site engagement before and during construction.

Our main emphasis lies in corporate workplace design, but our team thrives on tackling diverse project types and scales. During the development of construction documents, you will spearhead the coordination with the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) team, often collaborating within the same office for seamless integration.

In this dynamic role, you will assist in design, technical documentation, and construction services alongside the Project Manager, Technical Lead, and Lead Designers. As a Project Architect, you'll oversee the technical design and documentation, ensuring a cohesive set of deliverables across all disciplines while managing construction administration tasks for projects ranging from small to large in scale.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, production, coordination, and architectural detailing as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Lead and assist in coordination of engineering systems with engineers and consultants; actively partner with Design Leadership to carry through design intent; and coordinate with all other team members on project assignments and documents.

  • Monitor the technical quality of the projects by enforcing the application of QA/QC process standards and requirements while ensuring that all statutory requirements for the project are achieved.

  • Develop and maintain positive client relations throughout the life of the project.

  • Communicate project status, design intent, construction updates, and other critical information in a clear and compelling way to the owner(s), consultants, and clients.

  • Perform field site inspections to verify and document existing conditions.

  • Lead construction administration efforts inclusive of reviewing and responding to RFIs and submittals, attending OAC meetings and providing site observations.

  • Coordination with building and permitting officials.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Architecture or Interior Design, Interior Architecture degree from an accredited university.

  • 2+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Ability to travel to client sites, support project tasks and construction administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience supporting interior architecture projects.

  • Experience in corporate/commercial interior design or interior architecture industry with understanding of workplace projects, standards, and practices.

  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Strong technical expertise related to design and construction.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated, client focused, and detail orientated.

  • Registered Architect/ NCARB certification, a plus.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $81,000.00 - $91,000.00.
