AECOM is actively seeking an Environmental Scientist/Engineer specializing in environmental compliance, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, and/or permitting for a current contract with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Huntsville, Alabama. AECOM is a subcontractor to the MDA Technical, Engineering, Advisory, and Management Support (TEAMS) Environmental Management contract with offices located on Redstone Arsenal, AL.

The qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate 5+ years of progressively responsible work in providing environmental consulting services to the Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies, as well as healthy, positive relationships and reputation within this Federal sector and service area(s). The candidate will have worked on and managed small to large Federal environmental projects across an array of geographies, and have demonstrated acumen for project management; scope, schedule, and budget control for these services. The qualified candidate will possess relevant technical subject matter expertise in one or more specific areas of environmental compliance, planning and permitting.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely within interdisciplinary teams

  • Mentor junior staff

  • Make recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance

  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative

  • Make recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing

  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standardsUtilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field required

  • 10+ years of experience

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written

  • Solid report writing and organization skills

  • Good working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Organizational management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required

  • Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel

  • Self-motivated, driven, and hardworking

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment

  • Strong experience with environmental compliance and permitting, including the ability to work on complex projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload, as well as interface with clients

  • familiar with Federal, State, and Local environmental laws and regulations

  • Excellent and relevant references

  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental/chemical/civil engineering, biology, ecology, natural resources, wetlands management, geology, planning, or an earth science-related field

  • Minimum of 5 years F/T work experience in related field, preferably environmental compliance, permitting, and/or NEPA document preparation for the DoD or other Federal clients

  • NEPA, and environmental site assessment experience

  • Prior military or Federal consulting experience is preferred

  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance

  • Professional certification(s) (e.g., PE, AICP, CEP, PMP, PG CWB, PWS, etc)
