AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services Operating Group in the Americas (DCSA) is a $5B architecture, engineering, and consulting business with market-leading positions in Transportation, Water, Buildings, Government, Energy, and Environment. The Buildings + Places (B+P) Business Line, within DCSA, incorporates the Architecture, Building Engineering, Interior Design, Urbanism + Planning, Economics, Climate Adaption, Asset Advisory, Urban Analytics, and Strategy+ Consulting Services across key markets including Cities, Corporate, Government, Transportation, Education, Healthcare, Justice, Commercial, Mission Critical, Leisure and Sports markets.

AECOM’s recent design projects in Hawaii include the Neal S. Blaisdell center renovation for which we are the lead design firm; numerous projects for the U.S. Naval Engineering Facilities Command throughout the state and Pacific region; a new medical center for Kaiser Permanente; the Joint Traffic Management Center and Parking Garage as well as additional projects for the Honolulu Rapid Transit Authority.

POSITION OVERVIEW

AECOM is actively seeking a Hawaii/Guam Managing Principal for the Buildings + Places (B+P) business line to be based in our Honolulu office. The Managing Principal develops and drives the strategy and the growth of AECOM’s B+P group within the Hawaii/Guam and Pacific area in partnership with the B+P National and West Regional business line strategy. Our primary focus is on Federal, Healthcare and Commercial/Mixed Use market sectors. He/she leads the practice’s design and technical excellence, identifies strategic skills needed in the business line, and develops/recruits/hires key employees with those skills. As an industry leader, he/she builds strong relationships and develops/enhances the company’s position and reputation in the market.

Listing of essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Business Strategy and Development: Responsible for driving the strategy & vision for AECOM’s services for the B+P business line within Hawaii, Guam and throughout the Pacific. Be a B+P thought leader and subject matter expert. May also represent the company in municipal, state, and federal group forums.

  • Financial Results: Responsible for practice excellence, project and group operational and financial performance, revenue generation consistent with the financial plan, managing project risks, and business line sales and growth. Collaboratively develops the annual strategy and growth plans.

  • Growth: Directs the development of capture plans in pursuit of growing the business. Collaborates with other Regions and Business Line leaders to achieve region growth targets and capture new work.

  • Project Delivery: Leads design and technical excellence while setting the highest safety and ethical standards. Provides guidance and counsel to Leadership on assignment of design and technical staff to strategic pursuits, projects, and technical reviews.

  • People: Exhibits a strong focus on clients, a commitment to excellence and innovation, and strong engagement of employees. Responsible for identifying strategic skills needed in the B+P business line and developing/recruiting/hiring employees with those skills. Responsible for managing and developing direct reports, and proactively champions performance management and succession planning processes.

  • Operations: Optimizes staffing and execute workforce planning to drive strong utilization and project performance and culture of safety, quality, employee satisfaction, and alignment to AECOM core principles.

LOCATION

This position is based at our Honolulu office.

COMPENSATION

An attractive compensation package commensurate with the significant responsibility and importance of this position will be offered to the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Related Field

  • 12+ years of experience, including 4 years of leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business acumen and understanding of practice excellence together with company finances

  • Deep knowledge of the regional B+P marketplace, key clients, and industry trends

  • Experience and skill in strategic B+P business development, client relationships and driving sales and revenue

  • The ability to support and lead business development activities through early client interaction, “scope of work” development, interviews, and on-going client maintenance interface

  • Acted as principal-in-charge of a large/multi-disciplined project /consultant team

  • Experience with Federal (such as the Department of Defense), Healthcare, and Commercial / Mixed Use Clients and project types and relevant industry relationships

  • Experience working in Architecture/Engineering Industry in Hawaii and/or Guam

  • Experience in design-build projects/industry

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Registered Architect or Licensed Engineer

  • Member of Professional and/or Technical Society
