Job Description

Performs complex BIM or Plant Data Centric assignments involving the use of multiple application platforms, such as Revit, Intergraph SmartPlant, Plant 3D, etc. software, to achieve set results and deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works under general supervision to complete HVAC BIM design projects.

  • Provides training and technical support to design staff on the Building Information Modeling system, which provides 3D models using project specifications and content.

  • Directs project support and production for assigned projects, creating drawings as required using standards and content to meet job requirements (objects within the drawing, doors, lights, etc.).

  • Develops and maintains HVAC system models, including ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts.

  • Coordinates with other disciplines (structural, electrical, plumbing) to ensure proper integration of HVAC systems within the overall building model.

  • Performs clash detection and resolution using software such as Navisworks to identify and resolve conflicts between building systems.

  • Generates accurate quantity take-offs and schedules from BIM models to support cost estimation and procurement processes.

  • Participates in project meetings to discuss design progress, challenges, and solutions with the project team and stakeholders.

  • Ensures compliance with building codes, energy efficiency standards, and project specifications in HVAC system designs.

  • Maintains and updates BIM content libraries specific to HVAC components and systems.

  • Collaborates with engineers and architects to optimize HVAC system performance and energy efficiency through iterative design processes.

  • Prepares and presents design options and recommendations to project managers and clients.

  • Stays current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in HVAC BIM design and implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and building codes

  • Experience with 3D modeling and BIM workflows

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in HVAC design using BIM software

  • Advanced knowledge of Revit MEP and its HVAC-specific features

  • Familiarity with energy modeling and analysis tools

  • Experience with Revizto, Microstation, or other BIM collaboration platforms

  • LEED Accredited Professional certification

  • Knowledge of sustainable design principles and energy-efficient HVAC systems

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Experience with clash detection and resolution in multi-discipline projects

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE and SMACNA

  • Ability to mentor junior designers and contribute to BIM standards development
