Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Urban Planner to join our team. The Urban Planner will work on a variety of planning projects aimed at improving urban environments, ensuring sustainable development, and addressing the needs of communities. This position involves collaboration with local authorities, developers, stakeholders, and community groups to create plans that support the long-term growth and development of cities and regions. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in zoning, land-use regulations, transportation, environmental sustainability, and community engagement processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Urban Planning & Policy Development: Develop land-use plans, zoning policies, and regulatory frameworks that guide the growth and development of urban and suburban areas. Ensure compliance with local regulations and sustainability goals.
Site Analysis & Research: Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on demographic trends, economic conditions, land use, transportation systems, and environmental factors to inform planning decisions.
Community Engagement: Lead community outreach efforts, including public meetings, workshops, and surveys, to gather input from residents and stakeholders about proposed projects and development plans.
Planning Studies & Reports: Prepare and present planning documents, feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, and reports to clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
Project Management: Manage the implementation of planning projects from conception through completion, ensuring that they meet deadlines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with architects, engineers, developers, and government officials to coordinate planning and design efforts for new developments and infrastructure projects.
Sustainability & Resilience: Integrate sustainability and resilience principles into urban development strategies, promoting green building practices, energy efficiency, and climate resilience in urban areas.
Regulatory Compliance: Review and analyze zoning applications, development proposals, and permit requests to ensure they align with city and regional planning policies.
Transportation & Mobility Planning: Contribute to the development of transportation systems, including roads, public transit, bike lanes, and pedestrian pathways, to ensure safe and efficient mobility within urban areas.
Advocacy & Representation: Represent the planning department at public hearings, meetings, and presentations, advocating for planning solutions that meet community needs and align with broader urban policies.
Experience:
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in urban planning, with a strong understanding of zoning, land use regulations, and city planning processes.
Experience in working with local government agencies, developers, and community stakeholders.
Experience in managing planning projects and preparing related reports, studies, and presentations.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong proficiency in planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, or similar tools).
Excellent knowledge of urban planning principles, zoning laws, environmental regulations, and sustainable development practices.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and apply findings to planning decisions.
Qualifications
Education:
- A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field.
Additional Information
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including community members, government agencies, and private developers.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with transportation planning and infrastructure design principles.
