AECOM Senior Technician - AutoCAD & MicroStation in Glasgow, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Our Rail Structures team currently have an opening in our Glasgow office for a Senior Technician with experience of working on rail structure projects. AECOM are currently expanding their team in Glasgow following a significant increase in workload due to various project wins and require additional technician resources with proven skill in the use of AutoCAD and Microstation.

You would be part of the Glasgow Rail team numbering over 70 staff. The team works closely with our other Rail disciplines including Civils, Track, Signalling and Electrical & Power, plus supported by other teas such as, Roads, Geotechnical, Environment and Transport Planning.

Projects we are currently working on include:

  • Northumberland Line

  • Dalcross Station & Loop

  • East Linton Station

  • Dumfries Station Upgrade

  • NR Viaduct Long Timber Replacements

  • Dunblane to Hilton/Barnhill

  • Highland Main Line Structure Assessments

  • Far North Line Loop & LSI

  • A9 Interface Works

You will be based in the Rail Structures team as a key member of the development of structure designs across a variety of projects from initial concept design to complex detailing and modelling. The structures work associated with many of the projects listed above include feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design, bridge assessment and repairs of anything from small single-span rail structures to large mult-span viaducts, plus culverts, footbridges, lift shafts and highway overbridges.

You will be an experienced Bentley Microstation user with experience in Autodesk in all the modern and historic materials gained on a variety of bridge and infrastructure projects. You will have a proven level of experience of delivering to the client’s satisfaction and be expected to work closely with our engineers to develop/model designs from the outset.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Production of 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) drawings and models using Microstation.

  • Preparation of structure general arrangement and defect drawings for metallic, concrete and masonry structures.

  • Working with point cloud surveys and conversion to 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.

  • Ensuring outputs are accurate and meet the required standards

  • Contributing to the provision of solutions to civil engineering problems

Minimum Requirements

  • ICE Eng Tech qualified or working towards qualification.

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications

  • Experience in projects for Network Rail or working in Rail Environment

  • Strong maths and communication skills.

  • Strong experience in the production of structures or details drawings in AutoCAD and Microstation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good hand sketching (engineering / architectural)

  • Use of drone survey point clouds
