The AECOM Water business has an immediate requirement for an MEICA Design Team Leader to join our Caledonia Water Alliance team in Stepps (Glasgow).

As the MEICA Design Team Leader, you will work closely with our Water and Wastewater teams - and other supply disciplines - nationwide. You will be expected to deliver a high calibre of technical quality, interface with clients and collaborators in design and delivery. You will seek innovation and trial new methods, being inquisitive by nature.

You will see design through from conception to handover, and will be responsible for the design of the MEICA elements of infrastructure & non-infrastructure water and wastewater assets; this will include but not limited to pumping stations, ventilation systems, penstocks and valves, odour control systems, sludge treatment, chemical dosing, air systems and pipework layouts. Some of these projects will be large-scale and prestigious.

This role will involve site visits to carry out surveys and support of liaisons with clients, government authorities, contractors and suppliers. You will be tasked with delivering to agreed budget, programme and quality along with supporting the preparation of project budget and programme.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gathers and correlates engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Works on detailed, complex and routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Proposes approaches to solve new problems using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Identifies discrepancies in results.

  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

  • Development of project plans and estimates for the Mechanical & Electrical Engineering elements of a project.

  • Manage MEICA resource requirements across a number of small, medium and large projects

Minimum Requirements

  • Able to take full responsibility for producing, checking and approving engineering reports and designs.

  • Ability to coordinate, liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders.

  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical advice to support and supervise junior staff.

  • Significant experience in managing the technical delivery of large scale water and waste water engineering projects with multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Water and wastewater project experience across feasibility, outline, detailed design and construction support.

  • Production of specifications, calculations and WIMES data sheets.

  • Production of detailed design drawings, pipe schedule and mechanical plant layouts.

  • Production of process and instrument diagrams, control philosophy and HAZOP reviews.

  • Sound knowledge of WIMES Specifications and UK water companies. Project management experience desirable.

  • Industry recognised Health and Safety qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering.

  • Membership of or working towards a relevant professional chartered institute; for example, IMechE.
