Job Summary

Purpose and Scope:

Under supervision of an IT Lead or unit supervisor, performs standard network administration duties such as addition/deletion of user accounts, maintenance of hardware, software, and security of the network.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Monitors networks to ensure the highest level of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA).

  • Apply most recent system updates, software patches and technical configurations to keep range systems and networks compliant with Cyber Security policies.

  • Resolves network problems as directed by IT II.

  • When unable to resolve an issue, escalate to the next level of IT technical support or responsible department.

  • Assists with generation of reports for network system problems and directing reports to department and / or responsible personnel.

  • Enters diagnostic commands into computers to determine the nature of a problem and reads codes on screen to diagnose a problem.

  • Read technical reference manuals for network systems hardware and software to learn cause of problem.

  • Instructs users in the proper use of network system equipment and methods to resolve problems.

  • Records Network system malfunctions and action taken.

  • Accomplishes system maintenance and implementation of required changes as directed.

  • Accomplishes assigned tasks in accordance with all work instructions, JQS’s, and other document requirements.

  • Appraises unit supervision of progress and unusual complications.

  • Works closely with Cyber Security to complete required actions necessary to maintain required Risk Management Framework (RMF) documents such as vulnerability remediation, Secure Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), checklists and other related documents.

  • Documents maintenance actions in IEMS.

  • Performs assigned GFE, TMDE, Classified and Un-Classified material inventories.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved. Work is occasionally performed in a shop or other facility environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent. Formal classroom education equivalent to a DoD Service School producing Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) or vocational school with training specific to the field of information technology (IT), information systems (IS) and computer hardware. Two years’ experience in administration and troubleshooting of current Department of Defense (DoD) approved operating systems, including network devices such as routers and switches. Possess and maintain compliance with DoD 8570 Cyber Security Workforce (IAT II). Excellent communications and analytical skills, demonstrated working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Complete DoD and corporate reoccurring training requirements, to include Information Assurance Training, CPR and First Aid. Possess and maintain a Secret security clearance. Possess a state issued driver’s license.

This position has been assigned to the following CyberIT/CSWF Specialty Areas:

1.) Specialty Code 45 – System Administration – Intermediate/Journeyman

Employee must meet the qualification levels of the assigned CyberIT/CSWF Specialty Area IAW DoD 8140 & SECNAV M-5239.2
