Job Description
AECOM Western Canada is currently seeking a Senior Communications Systems Engineer with specialized skills in Transportation Systems, to join our multidisciplinary Western Canada Systems Engineering team and work on delivering an existing and future portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop detailed Communications sub-system designs specific to Transportation systems such as fibre optic and IP backbone networks, radio systems, integrated communications systems, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, intrusion and access control, SCADA, fire alarm systems, etc.
Produce system design deliverables such as block diagrams, riser diagrams, network diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, bill of materials, radio and optical link budgets, and others.
Generate design reports for all phases of system design.
Author test procedures and reports in support of design verification and validation during the project life cycle.
Produce Issued for Construction drawing and document packages.
Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports.
Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.
Manage and lead Systems vendors until final delivery.
Interface with other technical disciplines such as Power Supply & Distribution, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, Trackwork, Civil and others; including coordination and design of Systems interfaces, both physical and functional.
Support the management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
Lead technical interactions with clients, operators, and other major stakeholders.
Manage and deliver technical training of client staff.
Support the authoring of project plan documents.
Participate in the Requirements Management effort.
Support cost estimates, project schedules and budgets.
Perform technical review of other team members’ designs.
Participate in project pursuit efforts.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior personnel as part of team development.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor Degree + 6 years of relevant experience in design of Systems for rail and transit projects
Professional Engineer designation
Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
8 years or more of experience in rail and transit systems.
Experience with transit systems in Western Canada preferred, experience in Eastern Canada an asset.
Experience in Owner’s Engineer role.
Experience in design of one or more of the following: IP backbone networks, integrated communications system, passenger information systems, telephony, SCADA, guideway and track intrusion detection, fence intrusion detection, fire and life safety systems.
Experience participating in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management and Operations & Maintenance.
Working knowledge of codes and standards applicable to rail projects such as NFPA 130, EN 50121 and others.
Accustomed to operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for Communications sub-systems design.
Self-motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision.
Able to lead discussions with senior project staff, partners, clients and suppliers.
Able to multitask due to concurrent projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Open to traveling for work.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $110,000.00 - $160,000.00.
