AECOM Estimator, Senior in Edmonton, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Estimator to join the team at our Edmonton, Alberta location. This is a full time position.

Responsible for activities related to estimating all elements of project cost including labor (manual and non-manual), materials and permanent equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, construction equipment rental and operating costs, contingency, escalation, program risk, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops proficiency in the use of the Company estimating systems and processes.

  • Recognizes, understands and applies estimating terminology, measures, concepts and principles for compiling all types of estimates.

  • Responsible for cross-discipline application or may concentrate in one or more estimating disciplines including but not limited to Civil / Structural / Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation.

  • Utilizes the appropriate company and industry historical data for costing.

  • Recognizes how various processes/project actions and assumptions may impact the estimate and quantifies the impact.

  • Assists in analyzing and using estimates to predict key project issues.

  • Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of full project estimates. Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input.

  • Understands construction means, methods, and discplines sequences.

  • Attends site visitations and recognizes how various site conditions may impact the estimate and documents the impact.

  • Attends and participates in strategy reviews, pre-bid, post-bid, and kick-off meetings and actions applicable outcomes.

  • Assists and or prepares the Estimate Plan.

  • Conducts work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard estimating techniques, procedures, and criteria.

  • Provides guidance to less experienced estimating personnel.

  • Develops wage rate build-ups.

  • Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, Requests-for-Proposals and contracts.

  • Develops and oversees detailed material take-offs for procurement of bulk materials.

  • Develops and oversees detailed labour take-offs for application of labour norms.

  • Applies the various elements of the AECOM cost structure (overheads, G&A, insurance, etc.)

  • Develops cash flow schedules and estimates.

  • Prepares scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontract and vendor quotes.

  • Prepares subcontract and vendor bid analysis for scope, cost, and price.

  • Assists and or prepares the Estimate Basis.

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check, which may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. Qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma/Certificate in engineering or construction +6 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience.

  • Proficient MS office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Great communication skills - both written and verbally.

  • Strong organization skills, self-motivated and detailed-oriented skills.

  • Strong team player, must be able to work well with others.

  • Able to train, mentor and coach other estimators / team members.

  • This position may be required to drive a vehicle on behalf of AECOM and therefore will require the candidate to submit a satisfactory driver's abstract for review.

  • WHIMIS certification/ticket is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous estimating software experience is an asset.

  • Previous drafting experience is an asset.

  • Previous heavy industrial estimating experince is an asset.

  • Analitycal skills
