Our Edinburgh Water Team are looking for a Principal Structural Engineer with strong technical experience in the design and construction of structures. Our Water team has delivered some of the most high-profile projects in Scotland and internationally, so projects and clients will be varied and interesting.
The team are primarily working on Water Industry structures, principally new Pumping Station supply schemes for Scottish Water, involving storage tanks, chambers, large pumping station substructures and superstructures.
Our ongoing project portfolio includes structural aspects for dams and reservoirs, involving spillways, access bridges and valve tower remediation throughout Scotland, together with river flood protection schemes and fish pass structures.
Recent prestigious projects include significant structural engineering design as part of the award winning Deephams WWTW project in London.
As a Principal level Structural Engineer, you will demonstrate a high level of structural engineering design and assessment capability, backed up by sound technical knowledge and technical experience post chartership.
The successful candidate will be directly involved in - and responsible for - development and delivery of projects working with various project teams, including design, inspection, reporting and checking of deliverables. You will also prepare and check outline and detailed designs to relevant current design standards including detailed calculations and oversee the production of drawings (particularly reinforced concrete work).
You will need good interpersonal skills to enable you to work in a team, overseeing and checking project work deliverables undertaken by junior team members. You will be expected to nurture and develop relationships with existing clients.
Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE and/or MICE).
Minimum of 5 years’ experience post chartership.
Strong technical knowledge in structural engineering.
Significant design experience in steel frame and reinforced concrete structures.
Experience using and interpreting Structural Finite Element analysis modelling software and the ability to design to current codes.
Experience undertaking structural inspections and preparing detailed engineering reports, site survey and supervision of projects.
An accredited Master’s degree in Structural or Civil engineering.
Design experience in Water Industry.
Travel to site for inspections.
Experience using TEDDS software package.
