Job Description

Architectural Technologist - Aviation

AECOM is seeking an Architectural Technologist with strong recent experience of working in the Aviation Sector. The role will be based primarily in our Dublin office but will be required to work on site at Dublin Airport a minimum of 3 days per week. The candidate must be strong in technical design content and in design management, digital technologies, and design workflow. He/she will be expected to manage design activities and the production of design information. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of experience working on rail and/or aviation projects.

Project/Design Responsibilities

Programme Requirements, Standards & Performance

  • Assess project design requirements across the programme to ensure they are feasible and in line with the Contracting Entity’s objectives

  • Work concurrently on multiple projects within the programme through all RIBA stages from concept and detailed design through to completion, managing their interfaces, quality and competing interests.

  • Ensure Contractor(s) compliance with the approved designs during the construction phases

Technical Guidance

  • Ensure that detailed designs and contract documents are completed in accordance with timelines, quality, and cost objectives as set out by the Contracting Entity and in compliance with best in class governance and controls procedures as defined within the Infrastructure Department’s programme / project execution system.

  • Prepare design drawings and contract documents in accordance with the Irish Building Regulations and relevant and appropriate Irish / international standards.

  • Prepare design drawings and specifications that respond appropriately to the specific elements of the user brief such that all client requirements and expectations are adequately reflected in the design and execution and that the design and specifications are compliant with planning, fire, DAC and BCAR and all other building and statutory requirements.

  • Adopt and apply the implementation of appropriate design and standard procedures for projects, including relevant quality standard protocols for design production, relevant codes and standards, relevant level of design corresponding to the construction contract being used and sustainable design specifications where appropriate.

  • Promote a positive and safety culture in design, ensuring that best practices are implemented in relation to H&S and environmental legislation.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team & managing stakeholders

  • Manage and oversee the design performance of the external third-party consultants, supporting them to ensure that the best value design outcome is achieved.

  • When acting as part of the design team to coordinate with the design team lead in relation to reviews and checks of related design deliverables.

  • When required to, lead an appointed design team in the preparation and delivery of a design, ensuring that the design is prepared efficiently by formulating overall targets for the design team that are consistent with the project plan, fully coordinated across all the design disciplines, prepared to a high standard meeting clients expectation in accordance with a consolidated brief and delivered in line with the agreed programme.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Able to prepare feasibility reports and presentations

  • Strong design skills

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Experienced with Auto CAD & Revit, NBS Create Specification Writer, Microsoft office suites, inclusive of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, Sketch-up or similar 3D drawing package.

Qualifications

Experience :

  • Prior experience in design and architecture, with experience in significant and complex infrastructure projects

  • Detailed knowledge of the current Irish Building Regulations (Including Part L, Fire, DAC and BCAR)

  • Experience in similar role with proven track record of designing and delivering architectural projects from inception, brief development, planning, tender through to construction and completion on site.

  • Experience providing detailed guidance and advice on technically challenging designs

Additional Information

Third level qualification in Architectural Technology awarded by a recognised third level institution.
