Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our team based on site at Dublin Airport

As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer you will have responsibility for the assurance (and, where required, the design) of engineering elements relating to your discipline and associated with the various projects being delivered by the Infrastructure Department including airfield projects, site works, utilities, buildings and building services, external works associated with buildings, car parks and minor roads works. The role is across the various disciplines and you will be required to be flexible to support the teams across the various Delivery Programmes.

Job Responsibilities:

Programme Requirements, Standards & Performance:

  • Ensure designs and contract documents are completed in accordance with timelines, quality, and cost objectives as set out by the Contracting Entity and in compliance with best in class governance and controls procedures as defined within the Contracting Entity’s programme / project execution system.

  • Assess project requirements relating to the relevant engineering elements across the Programmes to ensure they are feasible and in line with the Contracting Entity’s objectives

  • Work on multiple projects within the Programmes through all stages from concept and detailed design through to construction and handover managing their interfaces and competing interests.

  • Work with the Programme teams to ensure Contractor(s) compliance with the approved designs during the construction phases

Technical Guidance:

  • Assure the design of the infrastructure projects and facilities and that they are designed in accordance with codes of practice, ICAO/EASA standards and best international practice.

  • Review and approve design calculations and drawings as specified within the quality management system.

  • Ensure that the design responds appropriately to the specific elements of the user brief, such that all client requirements and expectations are adequately reflected in the design and execution and that the design is compliant with planning and regulatory requirements (Building Regulations, Fire etc), Standards (ICAO/EASA) and Airport Directions (D-O Construction Projects) and any other statutory requirements.

  • Where required, to attend and contribute to airside risk assessments for airside construction works or works which require a 3rd party service provider to operate airside. This includes the implementation of agreed measures required to mitigate against risks identified

  • Engage with and bench-mark against UK and European Airports to apply best practice standards and procedures

  • Ensure works are designed and phased in a manner which minimises operational disruption and that are constructable and cost efficient

  • Review external design packages for appropriateness and completeness. Review all consultants’ work and contractor submissions on all assigned projects

  • Assist in the preparation of tender requests for the procurement of external consultants and support the procurement of design services and contractor(s)

  • Where required in support of the Programmes, review, issue and track all site work procedure documentation (SWP) for airside construction projects.

  • Assist with the writing of specifications and technical reports, conduct site visits and site surveys and meet with clients and project stakeholders during the programme lifecycle.

  • Provide professional technical guidance to the engineers within the Delivery Programmes where required.

  • Ensure that the recommended solutions are sustainable and cost effective across the Programmes.

  • Scope and undertake/oversee surveys as necessary, involving third party contractors as appropriate (eg, topographic surveys, ground investigations, condition surveys, utility surveys etc).

  • Perform the technical compliance reviews of design documentation, making recommendations on the designs based on the review of drawings / specifications / design information and the need to align to the Contracting Entity’s strategic intent

  • Manage and oversee all issues, root causes, and corrective actions recommended / taken to ensure closure in a timely manner

Working within a multi-disciplinary team & managing stakeholders:

  • Coordinate with the wider Programme teams for works in progress including agreeing specifications and standards, construction supervision and testing requirements, and provide recommendations for final acceptance of completed works

  • Be proactive in co-ordinating project design requirements between fellow design colleagues, project managers, asset care personnel and external consultants

  • Support stakeholders, external designers and contractors, ensuring that the best value design outcome is achieved.

  • Manage and oversee the technical performance of the external third party consultants

  • Make a timely response to technical queries and requests for information from stakeholders throughout the programme lifecycle.

  • Provide input into the relevant project and programme management processes and procedures

  • Ensure clear coordination with other aspects of the projects (civil, electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural design) to ensure interfaces are functional

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Level 8 Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering Discipline

  • Extensive relevant experience on aviation and other related projects of a similar size and complexity

  • Where required, experience acting as a Design Lead on multi-million euro projects including acting in an assurance role reviewing designs and drawings produced internally and externally by 3rd parties

  • Have an understanding of the safety processes and requirements of designing and constructing Airside

  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and MS office suite

  • Proficiency in the use of software relevant to the particular discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International Level 9 Masters in relevant field would be advantageous
