AECOM Senior Civil Engineer - Water in County Antrim, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our successful Water team based in Belfast. We are looking for someone with a strong civils design background to support our Belfast Water Team who are currently delivering projects all over the UK & Ireland, as well as Internationally.

AECOM are a global organisation with 60,000 employees across our offices worldwide. You will be joining an experienced water team, working alongside our lead design engineers and project managers. You will receive continuous support to grow your experience through the project design and construction delivery cycle. In this role, you will work alongside individuals from various disciplines, such as geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, architects, process engineers, mechanical engineers, ecologists and environmental engineers.

As a Senior Engineer, you will lead junior engineers with full support to maintain your CPD and embrace initiatives to help you further develop your own skills and career. AECOM fully supports individual requirements to develop and build their experience, chartership professional qualifications and skill sets.

What could a typical week look like?

  • Write technical notes and reports.

  • Attend site meetings.

  • Carry out surveys.

  • High level and detailed flow and load calculations.

  • Produce AutoCAD, Civil3D or BIM 360 design drawings.

  • Create and run feasibility studies.

  • Produce outlines and detailed water/wastewater treatment designs.

  • Ensure CDM compliance throughout design and construction.

  • Contract documentation.

  • Provide guidance and mentor junior staff.

  • Perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and tests.

  • Propose approaches to solve problems using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Identify discrepancies in results.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently perform all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

Minimum Requirements

  • Civil Engineering design experience.

  • Civil Engineering educational background.

  • Experience using CAD 2D.

  • Ability to take on elements of design or report and work on your own initiative.

  • Experience in developing and promoting Safety in Design practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in design and management of water / wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure upgrade schemes.

  • Experience with CAD 3D and BIM.

  • Experience in technical checking and reviewing drawings and calculations.Obtained or working towards chartered status.

  • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior staff.

  • Some knowledge of the following areas; hydrology, hydrogeology, geotechnical, structural engineering, biology and/or chemistry would be advantageous
