AECOM Senior Traffic Engineer in Cornwall, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Our team in Scorrier, Cornwall provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects locally as well as supporting other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface. At AECOM we offer flexible working and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns including compressed weeks and regular home working.

Our Roads team have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer in our Scorrier office. To promote collaborative working, AECOM have co-located in the offices of our strategic Partner, Cormac Solutions since 2017.

You will be joining an established team that will be involved in the delivery of projects, primarily for Cornwall Council and other regional clients including WECA, Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and Cardiff County. Current projects include:

  • Truro Northern Access Road Design;

  • Design major Active Travel programmes;

  • Portfolio of LCWIP's; and

  • Local transport improvement projects

You will preferably have experience of working as part of project teams developing feasibility, preliminary and detailed design for traffic engineering schemes. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team whilst taking advantage of the lifestyle that Cornwall offers. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

You will be recently chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven design experience delivering to quality, time and budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake Design Lead role in the preparation of preliminary & detailed design of traffic / highway engineering, local transport schemes

  • Project financial and programme management

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health, and the environment in the design

  • Ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards, and reviewing the work of others

  • Preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.

  • Share knowledge to ensure the wider team are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation

  • Taking responsibility for own career and professional development

  • Supporting the career planning, training, and development of team members

  • Input into detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of developing detailed design solutions to traffic engineering problems

  • Knowledge and experience in the following aspects: cycling / walking design, traffic calming, junction design

  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of relevant design standards, guidance and regulations.

  • Proven ability of leading single and multi-disciplined projects as Design / Technical Lead

  • Experience of dealing directly with Clients, Local Authorities and Key Stakeholders

  • Demonstrate an awareness of project management and project planning

  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements including CDM responsibilities

  • Excellent technical and communication skills and ability to work well within a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC, BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Engineering or another relevant qualification.

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards an appropriate Chartered
