Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer for employment in the Coral Gables, FL office.

In this position, the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer oversees multiple contractors involved in the new build and rehabilitation of wastewater treatment plants (WWPT's), pumping stations and force mains within Miami Dade, FL.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee contractors and subcontractors who are constructing and rehabilitating waste water and waste water collection and transmission infrastructure, gravity sewer systems, force mains up to 54” diameter, submersible pumping and dry well/wet well pumping stations, including electrical, diesel generators and HVAC systems

  • Review pre-commissioning construction records, test certificates, vendor submittals and other record documents for accuracy and completeness

  • Assist the contractor develop and implement commissioning procedures

  • Review and comment on Contractor commissioning and startup testing procedures, work plans, performance test procedures

  • Walk down process systems, either alone or part of a team, and create equipment and/or system construction completion punch list not only for mechanical items but also for electrical, structural, piping, and I&C

  • Understands mechanical process systems in a working wastewater treatment plant and/or sewage pumping station

  • Attends contractor construction meetings and comments on construction completion activities, commissioning, startup and closeout items

  • Making improvements to, and offering advice about, startup and commissioning procedures

  • Ensures that equipment and systems work to its specification

  • Managing and coordinating system investigating problems, diagnosing and repairing faults

  • Writing reports and other correspondence

  • Maintain the high Health and Safety Program standards set by the Program team and the client

  • Ensure Construction Contractor compliance with client contract Health, Safety and Environmental specifications and plans

  • Ensures the contractor complies with their submitted Health, Safety and Environmental management plans

  • Attendance and input at monthly/weekly/daily contractor and client meetings

  • Issue stop work notice for IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life or Health)

  • Ensures that all necessary statutory, regulatory and other records are maintained

  • Work with other Program department personnel, client project management, and client operations with installation/project engineers, contractors, subcontractors and vendors as required

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • 10 years’ experience

  • Experience with commissioning and startup of water treatment process plant systems and equipment

  • Experience in wastewater and wastewater collection and transmission infrastructure, gravity sewer systems, force mains up to 54” diameter, submersible pumping and dry well/wet well pumping stations

  • Experience with current and emerging waste water treatment plant installations including, but not limited to:

  • chemical (liquid and gaseous) storage tanks

  • pumps and dosing systems

  • monitoring and sampling systems

  • sludge dewatering and thickening systems

  • pumping systems

  • digestion process

  • FOG

  • standby generators

  • co-generation facilities

  • clarifiers

  • screens and screenings handling equipment

  • HV, MV and LV electrical systems

  • controls and SCADA

  • Experience with lock out tag out procedures

  • Experience with working with civil and building inspectors and electrical and control engineers/inspectors

  • Direct experience working with multiple contractors in the field

  • Knowledge of permit to work systems and their applications

  • Experience with live electrical work and safety precautions

  • Experience with pressure testing and safety precautions

  • Competency with hazardous chemicals and MSDS information

  • Understanding of P&IDs and engineering drawings and specifications

  • Understand of project schedules and coordinating work to meet tight deadlines

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral

  • Good communication skills with both internal and external customers

  • Self-starter and capable of multi-tasking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel

  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction or equivalent (NEBOSH)
